    Job Description:
While going about his life, a massive claw shoots out of the ground and grabs Niyol, dragging him into the ground in a literal blaze of glory. Next thing he knows, he's standing between two armies with two women who look extremely similar. The only distinguishable difference being hair and eye colors. "Name's Misaki." one of them says. "Masaki." the other. The two of them explain that their armies are equally matched, and they decided to bring in somewhat of a tie breaker to shake things up. Each will explain that he's expected to pick a side, and fight for them exclusively. They started this battle to see which of them will have the right to the throne, and decided at least one of them needs a champion. They each will explain their stances on how they want to rule as follows:

Misaki believes that the Demons of this plane are stuck in their ways, and need to learn to be passionate about more than just common disaster. She wants to recreate the place so that they can become a force that Earthland will want to trade with out of fear.

Masaki believes that the Demons of this plane are stuck in their ways, and need to learn to be passionate about more than just common disaster. She wants to recreate the place so that they can become a force that Earthland will want to trade with out of friendship.

However, Niyol will opt to fight them both.

There they sat, the two of them, Niyol and Hana Lich. It had been a few months that Hana and Niyol were together, not together as in romantically, though in Niyol's tribe familial love was more romantic than what outlanders would normally not look at strangely. That said, Hana Lich was someone Niyol had regarded as a daughter. The girl had called Niyol 'master' even though she considered him to be a father more than a teacher. The reason she called Niyol 'master' was because she didn't want Niyol to get the impression that she had forgotten about her real father, as he had expressed was one of his concerns before. Though... it would probably be a good idea to explain exactly how these two individuals had come to meet...

Starting before the tale of the God of Death had even begun his story, a bit over 7 years after his birth, Niyol was taken to a meeting with the other eleven tribes and their designated guardians. At the time, Niyol wasn't destined to be anything more than the adopted brother of the actual Guardian of Souls, who everyone had assumed was Wayra, Niyol's elder brother and the Tribe's current Shaman, when a woman who the twelve tribes knew only as 'The Mother' had stated that all of the Guardian's of Creation were present. Niyol's parents were killed when he was born by a massive eruption of energy that stole the life from them. On top of being an outlander, or one who is not one with the people for the lengthier term, everyone had assumed that the Guardian of Souls was the only native in the room. Even Niyol himself had assumed The Mother was referring to Wayra. His whole like he was the worst at swordplay, the weakest mage even among the males, the most hated of the children, and an outlander to boot... Even his scores in war tactics and outlander speech were mediocre at best, so in his mind he was hardly worthy of even being alive, and the other children would agree.

At this meeting was Hana as well, though she was only a couple months old at the time and wouldn't remember it. Niyol wasn't paying attention to the other children, he was just focusing on not embarrassing Wayra even more than his presence already did. Wayra was a loving man, even though Niyol wasn't related to him at all he assured him that his presence brought him no shame, but rather it was an honor for him to have such a supportive younger brother. Hana was the heir to the Tribe of the Solar Flame, destined to be the guardian for their sacred weapon 'Hi no Uta' or the Song of Fire. Skipping over the destruction of his tribe, the decade of surviving as the last member of his people, all the way past many key events in Niyol's life we stop 16 years later on Divide Island...

Niyol had sensed a disturbance in the balance of Life and Death and ventured to Divide Island, accompanied by Mao Nakiri, and her close companion Nocshanks. On the island, Niyol had made a temporary truce with Kasmeer, one of the spirits who safeguarded Mao, whether she liked it or not... It was also here that Hana Lich was pulled to by the chains of fate, where she openly challenged Niyol to a duel as per the customs when two Guardians crossed paths. It was to her misfortune that she had come across Niyol, furthermore unfortunate that she had come across him when he was in an absolutely horrible mood, and most unfortunate that she ended up being the outlet for his anger while his demonic aspect was surfacing. Here it was revealed to her that the difference between the Guardian of Soul, and all other men from the Tribe of Souls was unimaginable... The men of the Tribe of Souls were among the weakest of the twelve Tribes of Creation, but Niyol had taking down Hana Lich in a single hit.

Altsoba had explained to Mao that the difference in Hana's power and Niyol's wasn't because of nature taking its course, but rather because of how the two of them grew up... Hana had been a celebrity in her tribe. She was the most powerful of all of them because of her weapon, and because of her power she was treated like a goddess. She didn't have to fight to survive, she fought because it was her job, and she was so powerful that she almost never got hurt... She got everything she ever wanted and more. However, Niyol was the exact opposite of that spectrum. Niyol had lost everything he ever knew, more specifically, he destroyed all of it with his own two hands. He spent every day of his life afterwards learning to survive, clawing his way up the food chain to become what he was. While Hana got everything she ever wanted an more, Niyol was lucky to get an insect in the morning and a drop of rain at night. The scars adorning his body was more than enough to testament to his struggle, and prove that for sure... the struggle was real.

Hana didn't call it quits just because Niyol had kicked her ass once... No, far from it. She had then tried to fight Niyol by interrupting a battle between him and one of the four guardians of Divide Island which ended with her taking a double blast attack from both of them. She then went for attempt number three just before Niyol met up with the third guardian, and this time she had decided to release her blade... but she was too late to go all-out against Niyol as she found that even her own sword, which she had been with for her whole life, had abandoned her and claimed Niyol as its master. Out of desperation, she had attacked Niyol a final time with everything she had, hoping that he would kill her if she didn't get her weapon back, only to find Niyol to be too strong for her best to overcome... Hana had pleaded with him, getting on her hands and knees and crying bloody murder for him to let her continue guarding Hi no Uta. She offered him everything, her status, all the money from her tribe, her soul, her virginity, her first child if Niyol wanted it... She found that Niyol was a much simpler man, that he would let her have her weapon back for nothing more than a promise that she'll never attack him again. After this show of generosity, Hana had begged him to train her, to which he refused... so she did what every logical, level headed woman would do. She stowed away on his ship and followed him at close proximity till he finally agreed to become her teacher.

    Meanwhile...

The sound of armour clashing was heard across the battle torn hills, littered with withered grass, severed limbs, and corpses. "Second unit advance!" a harsh, feminine voice called over the clashing of steel and flesh. "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" the chorus of masculine voices, hulking masses, and testosterone shouted as they all began charging with all their might. "Shieldsmen at the ready!" a voice, much like the other one had sounded. The echo of heavy slabs of metal slamming against the ground was heard from over the battle struck hillside, the sounds of bodies flinging themselves at the shields resonated through the air.

Returning to the world that this story began in, what the gods of this land named Earthland, we see that Hana was enjoying one of the few breaks that Niyol gave her from her training. It had been a rather good day for Niyol, the sun was shining, the clouds were nowhere to be seen, and a gentle breeze was blowing through the mountains surrounding the run down castle he had come to call home. It was within these cold, hard, scorched, broken, barren pale walls that Niyol had been able to find refuge from the constant barking of the Rune Knight dogs and other Magic Council pawns that seemed to plague Earthland... While it was't some cozy room with air conditioning, maids and servants, and people who would bend over backwards and lick their heels if she asked them, Hana had found it to be relaxing to sleep under the stars. While she didn't like having to admit to it, she actually enjoyed sleeping curled up with Niyol more than having what may as well had been a cloud for a bed...

When she had initially met Niyol, Hana made sure to keep her distance from the shirtless soul mage, and constantly voided looking him in the eyes. She respected Niyol for how strong he was, but that same strength had also made her terrified of the man since she knew that at any time, for any reason, or no reason at all... Niyol could kill her in an instant if he wanted to. The first time she actually decided to give Niyol a full chance was a night where it was frigid, and the fire had died out... The rain was coming down pretty hard, and any wood they would have gotten would have been too soaked in order to be any good. Hana was going to try and make it through the night with her own body heat, but she suddenly went stiff when she felt a pair of arms slide under her upper body and legs, lifting her up and setting her on a pair of muscular legs sideways. Her eyes were wide with fear, her body refusing to move as her heart began pounding against the inside of her chest... Suddenly, the air around her got warm as the world was engulfed by darkness... something was touching her, soft, silky, and warm... She felt Niyol's arms wrap around her gently and heard him begin singing for the first time. The song was sad, it was about an individual destined to inherit the world... after losing everything they held dear. When she woke up, she saw Niyol with a pair of massive angel wings, black instead of white, but they were birdesque like an angel's...

After that day, Hana had found herself thinking more fondly of Niyol, which was sped up even further when they went fishing. It was a day where Hana and Niyol had gone to catch food in a nearby lake, but for the entire day, the only thing caught was a single fist that could barely feed a child. The two of them had gone a couple days without food, and since Niyol had caught the fish, it was his to eat. However, Niyol had cooked the fish and given it to Hana saying that if she didn't eat it, he would force feed it to her. She ate it while crying, it was the first time someone had threatened her to make her be selfish and do something for herself. Each day Niyol had acted more and more like a father to her, until finally she found herself unable to understand why anyone was afraid of Niyol at all... Granted he was scary powerful, but he wasn't a murderous man... Under a rock shell layer of pain, buried beneath pain and sorrow, submerged in a sea of anguish was the still beating heart of a father, a loving man who Hana felt horrible for assuming the worst of... The night she broke down, she cried endlessly while hugging Niyol, even crying in her sleep from the guilt of thinking of him as a monster before. She woke up the next morning with Niyol holding her closely, his stomach was rumbling, but he was smiling which only served to make her cry more, but he assured her it was alright and he treated them both to city food. After that day, Hana spent every night sleeping with Niyol... there may have been an incident involving alcohol, but nothing life changing resulted from it.

Even now, Niyol had a gentle smile on his face as he held Hana Lich as though she were Kateri. While Niyol hadn't replaced Kateri, his real (not really) daughter, she was normally with her guild, Lamia Scale, helping them repair Hargeon after the recent attack that Niyol may or may not have blown her guild hall up in...

Hana had asked Niyol to tell her the story of how the twelve tribes, his version of it, since her people had looked down on the Tribe of Souls and made them seem like they were just a bunch of pacifistic fools at the bottom of a proverbial food chain. He sat up, resting his back on the face of a wall that was severely damaged and began telling the tale. "Over ten thousand years ago, there were hundreds upon hundreds of different tribes that existed. Each tribe strong in their own area, some were good at crafting, others hunting, singing, fighting, assassinating, the list goes on... Each of them divided from their brothers and sisters, each tribe only attempting survival for themselves. But they all had one thing in common... each tribe had served a being of power. This being was an individual who showed love and compassion to all who came to her who were broken. Each man, woman, child, and beast treated as an empty vessel that she gladly filled with the knowledge of how to fill itself, but made sure not to just give them what they wanted. This being had no face, no name, no origin that any of the tribes knew of... this being had been known as 'The Mother' and while not a goddess, she was treated as such... Over two centuries had passed since the last tribe had formed itself, this tribe consisting of members of the others who were too weak, too stupid, deformed, or born to die. This tribe was hunted on by the others, any food produced stolen, any healthy children produced, stolen, any notable advancements in their primitive technology... stolen." Niyol said, his eyes narrowed at the last word.

"After years of damnation, the tribe of misfits had came to the mother... weaker than before, emaciated, on death's doorstep and pleaded with her for not power, but a safe place to call home. The mother instead taught them magic, giving them the power to fight, the knowledge of controlling the souls of their fallen comrades to heal the living, and enhance their bodies in ways the other tribes could never hope to accomplish through labor. The raids had stopped, and the tribe had grown strong, but never once attempted to get revenge... However, the other tribes had all grown wary of the new form of combat that was introduced, and almost all of them had decided to settle their differences and band together to either lay waste to the magical tribe, or steal away any child so they may share the gifts that child possessed whether they wanted to or not." Niyol had straightened up, though remained staring into the fire as the ghosts of his people's past had danced inside it. "Needless to say, the first major war between tribes had broke out. The first ten years were the death of more than half the tribes who existed, all of them using conventional tactics, but the magic users were growing weary of battle and lacked the same numbers the others had. For every one that fell, another twenty enemies replaced them. The women of the tribe had to adopt ice magic, using the raw power of the bitter cold to erect barriers to funnel their enemies into a single place before destroying them... but times evolved, and the other tribes sought help from the outlanders... they had arrived with technology, trebuches that lobbed explosives over those walls. With their home turned into a coffin, the tribe of magic users had little choice but to flee where they took refuge wherever they could, and were hunted to near extinction..."

Niyol grabbed a few small sticks and set them in the flame to keep it burning before continuing. "After some twenty or so years of running, the tribe had found themselves cornered by their enemy. Stuck inside a cave suffering from magic deficiency... Their saviors were eleven other tribes who'd banded together and swept across the other army, raining arrows and spears before a wave of melee combatants. They took in the weakened mages, the misfits they had once banished and treated their wounds, gave them food and drink, and asked for their guidance. After much negotiation, the leaders of the twelve tribes had formed a compact and all twelve tribes gathered before the mother and she gave them all the power to claim an aspect of this world. In the years that followed, the tribes trained with each other and mastered their gifts..." Niyol picked up a stick and began drawing symbols in the ground as he spoke. "Ice (snowflake), Fire (flame), Water (droplet), Air (squiggles), Earth was later named the Tribe of Sands (mountain), Mind (eye), Body (heart), Time (watch), Space (circle), Reality (square), Unreality which was later named 'Dreams' (square with a broken end), and Soul (question mark). These are the Twelve Tribes of Creation... it was these twelve tribes of magic users who swept across their homeland and wiped out all the others. Any tribe that showed aggression was removed from this world. Those that wished to be left alone were granted that solitude, those who wished to assimilate were given the magic of the tribe they joined." [size=14]Niyol put the stick down and let out a sigh, the old tale bringing back memories both good and bad.

"Among these twelve tribes, their own hierarchies were made. Each tribe took up a role to play, some tribes devoting themselves entirely to combat, some to hunting, some to cooking, crafting, farming and so one. The Tribe of Souls acted as the peace keeper, the glue that bound the others to the mother's will and kept them from waging war. That is... until the tribe of Sands had threatened to take over the others, and were wiped out in yet another bloody war. The next time the balance was thrown off, we all know."

The sun had risen slightly, enough to shoot a ray of light straight into the castle, filtering through the holes in the walls and letting Niyol know it was officially time to wake up. Upon getting to his feet, something grabbed him and pulled the shirtless mage into the ground where he found himself in a world he could blatantly sense was demonic in nature... "This guy?" "He's supposed to be some super powerful person... so yeah." "He doesn't look like anything more than a human." "Before you babbling fools continue, explain why it is you disturbed my activities and I may decide to not kill you where you stand." "Ooooooh he's got a fire in him!" "That fire's about to burn your heart out. Do not make me repeat myself wench." "Not much for mann-" Niyol cut them off by slamming the side of his hand into both of their throats, causing them to begin gasping for ear while clutching their trachea. "What w-" "Do not make me repeat my question." "Right..." the other one said with a hoarse tone.

They cleared their throats and began explaining. "I'm Misaski." "I'm Masaki." "We're both born from the same father, at the exact same time. Our dad is the lord of a really big kingdom and since we were born at almost the same time father refuses to name either of us as his successor." "To find out which one is better off ruling the kingdom, we decided to have a mini-war to see who's better at defending the town. Unfortunately we're both about even when it comes to tactics, army strength, and individual power... so for the past two decades it's been a stalemate."

Niyol's eyebrow twitched slightly as irritation at the two began increasing even further... The two princesses gave a panicked look and sped up their explaining. "So the two of us decided to settle the way we'd grab someone of value from the human world and bring them here." "Then the person will pick a side, and whoever wins gets the rights to the-" "Let me get this straight... The two of you have spent two decades, waging war against each other for a vain position... and are going to put the fate of your entire kingdom in the hands of someone you know not?" "That's a really harsh way of putting it..." "IS THAT NOT WHAT YOU ARE DOING!?" "Yes." she said with a squeaked voice. "You're both the worst successors I've ever had the misfortune of coming across." he said coldly.

"Well if you're such hot shit for a leader then why don't you fight us both then!?" "Fine." Niyol said, causing the two of them to look dumbfounded that he took them seriously. Niyol let out a sigh, getting on a knee and clutching some dirt and rubbing it into his hands... Niyol closed his eyes, letting his mind drift to a slightly different time... The flashback played, miles and miles of blue skies lay before the shirtless mage. His single strand of long hair flickering behind him as the shorter, but still rather lengthy unkempt hair waved in the gentle breezes passing by him. It had been a harsh road Niyol had come as he reflected on his past. He'd gone from being a simple child with almost nothing, to being one of the strongest death mages in Fiore. He'd gone from having no friends, no family, no sense of humanity to having Mao, Kateri, and Hana. All of which he'd regarded as his entire world. While Niyol hadn't wanted a child, or at least, he didn't think himself worthy of having one at all, Kateri's birth had brought about a true blessing to him. A sigh of contentment was released as the normally bitter Niyol had fully accepted that his life, while harsh up till recently, was rather decent. Though, he wondered exactly where the change had started... Why was it that Niyol had met Mao in the first place? Mao had been through great ordeals with Niyol, his affection for her growing since the time she showed him mercy in the Ancient Ruins following one of his demons taking over him. Since then, Mao had guarded his back while performing a seemingly mundane task in the Forgotten desert which had lead to her entrusting him with information fit for more worthy ears. His love for the woman had grown further, excelling beyond common friendship to the point where he would display his magical prowess to the fullest extent, going so far to steal the one thing he'd swore he'd never touch. Niyol's mind faded back to reality, returning to the fact that he was no longer flying over those canyons, and his trip had finished here...

Thinking back to that task... the first time Niyol had actively gone out to save someone he cared about so dearly... Niyol let out a scoff as he remembered exactly how great of lengths he'd gone to ensure Mao's survival. However, in the end Niyol never even made it to fight Syu... he didn't even see the battle. His fists tightened as he remembered the bloody battle between him and the life magus... that damned talkative woman. Still, despite his uselessness on that day Mao had aided him in retrieving the Balance Core. It was on that day that Niyol confessed to her, and Mao accepted the invitation to become his sister. It was the second greatest day of his life, behind finding out he was a father... the day when his family... the one he himself had obliterated, became that much larger. Niyol's eyes grew softer as he sat in the brush, thinking of how it may be possible to restore his tribe... to possibly gain another sister, or perhaps a brother...

Thinking of it now, Niyol knew that Mao was vastly older than he... but the whole time they knew each other Mao had treated him as though they were the same age. He questioned whether or not he actually should act as a younger sibling, or if she was alright with treating him as her equal. There would also be the possibility she wanted to be the younger of the two? "First I must cleanse my sins." Niyol said outload before standing up, sliding a blade from his left side. Niyol knew he was on the Magic Council's shit list, and he knew his way of living was a blight in his sister's eyes. Niyol wanted to be the brother, whether younger or not, that Mao would be proud to mention being acquainted with... so he had much work that needed to be done. However, this work was exceedingly bloody, and would require more sin... so much blood and sin that a river would form by which to wash away his sin... then and only then could he attempt to become a better man.

"Cleanse your sins?" "If you attempt to mock my pride, I will desecrate your corpses when I finish with them." ]"Right. Whatever, let's get this going.."
