Kiru

On the edge of a forgotten desert laid a town. The sole surviving village among the heat and sand, the last remaining descendants of an ancient civilization. Despite their ancestry, they too have forgotten the name of these sandy dunes. Truly, it was a place lost in the sands of time, no pun intended. The town was built around an oasis, a magical spring that is connected to the planet below, it was the jewel of the Desert. As long as humans had known of its location, it has been colonized and settled around.

In today’s time, the town had become more of a tourist destination. Sure, it had it’s local populace, people that would live there, work, play, and other such activities. It’s main attraction was what kept this village a float for so long, the Oasis. It was water, sure it had the ability to replenish its own supply, but in the end that’s all it was. Though, the rumors of it being healing waters and having other properties probably didn’t hurt the turnout. Those weren’t the only business they got for the city, of course. There were regular shop stalls and buildings among the tourist crap. Merchants coming and leaving, supply caravans doing about the same.

On a very normal day, one just like any other, a particular nature mage came strolling into the Oasis town. With it being so popular, he just had to come and check out the spring, to see and drink for the water it produced. Jaeger, made his way through the town. Other than the water “attraction” and merchandise shops, there was nothing great or unique to this place. There was a lot of sandstone, sand, and other building materials that one could probably find elsewhere. It was pretty dull to him, to be honest. What makes it worse was all the noise, people gossiping or screaming about the water and its wonders.

It was all too aggravating. Honestly, Jaeger would rather be back home instead of here. Seeing the oasis, drinking the water, and maybe buying a couple souvenirs , he got bored after it all.. And it was all done in a day. The Sleeping Forest mage wandered around the town for the remainder of his day. It would give him time to think on whether or not he’d want to even stay over night or just hop on the last transportation out of the town. Doing so caused him to zone out and not pay attention to where he was going. This happened often when he was left to think on his own and walk at the same time, the man tended to bump into people, which is what happened.

”Oph… Im sorry. I got lost in my head for a bit.”

So THIS was the fabled oasis Kiru had heard so much about? She stood at the edge of the desert pond, lazily dragging her fingers through it. The Demon Slayer admired the properties of this body, along with her own magic. However, the only reason why she was here was strictly for research. Many people claimed this place had amazing healing properties within the water. Kiru wanted to learn, and maybe apply it to her own healing magic assuming the rumors around it were true. She crouched down and dipped her foot into the pond. Soon, the water surrounding her foot turned into a faint white color, and she concentrated as hard as she could to find what properties it held... She closed her eyes, and put both palms on the surface... And then something bumped into her, utterly destroying any sense of concentration she had within an instant.

"Hey! What's the big idea?" She asked annoyingly as she looked up at a man who claimed to had been lost in thought. "Watch where you're going... I'm trying to learn something..." She said again. She stood up, brushed the sand off her waist and looked up at the man who was taller then herself. A sudden thought struck her however, and she decided it wouldn't hurt to ask. "Er, you wouldn't happen to know the magic properties of this water would you?" She said.

Wam. Bam. Crash and Thud. Jaeger had run into a rather pretty young lady, who was clearly annoyed by this incident. Could he blame her? Really, bumping into someone could interrupt so much. Their train of thought, their own peaceful walk, or even could bother them while in a date. It was an inconvenience, despite being an accident. The mage looked to the young woman, to apologize for being so rude. However, he hadn’t got much of a word in wise until she asked him about the water. From what he can tell, through sensing the magic, and doing all the normal tourist things, there wasn’t much to the water.

”Heh.. Sorry about that.

The water? Outside the legend of it constantly refilling itself, there’s nothing special ‘bout it. Simply sensing and looking at the magic it’s connected with… yeah there’s nothing really…”

It was tragic, being interrupted in the last few bits of his explanation. The old man was in a frenzy, looking for people to go on a job. A shipment of lacrima had gone missing, stolen even! It was done by none other than The Cartel. This old man would go onto say that no one had signed up in days. This important job was going ignored and the man was getting very worked up. He pleaded for one of them to take it, even both of them could.

”Uh… yeah, I guess I can take the Job. Though, it’d be up to the Lovely lady here if she wants to team up for it.”

Kiru gave a small sigh of frustration at the man's words. She wasn't angry at him, but the fact he was probably right. The rumors she heard about the water were exactly that. Rumors. "Oh, well. That's awesome." She said with a strong hint of sarcasm looking back down at the water. She slowly shook her head before turning back to the man. "It's fine. Probably should have picked a better spot to look for non existent magic anyways." She told him, admitting her own fault for picking a weird position.

However, before either of them could continue with whatever it was they were doing, an older man's yells could be heard among the people around them. Her ears perked when her enhanced slayer senses picked up the opportunity for a job. She gave a small smirk, but before she could answer the man who had recently bumped into her had already intervened.

"Oh? uhh, sure! I'd love to steal back some Lacrima from bandits. Not like I got anything else to do after this trip was a complete bust." She observed the man for a moment before questioning. "And your name is...?"

The man certainly was frustrated, heck, Jaeger would be too if a request had gone ignored for so long. Especially one of vital importance such as this, The recovery of the Royal Shipment of Lacrima. Though, it did make one wonder, what happened to the others travelling with the crystal like objects? Surely there would have been royal escorts or some other hired guns to transport them. How strong would the cartel be if they wiped out the escort as well? Honestly, it was almost thrilling; To fight a menace such as this, a chance to get out so of the bottled up rage and hurt that he was trying to get away from with this vacation of sorts.

His thoughts took him from reality momentarily, but the lady he was next to snapped him out. What was his name? Should he be honest with it? The last time he was honest, it didn’t work out in the end. His life and soul was shaken to the core and sundered in two. The thought crossed his mind, but he wasn’t raised as such. Jaeger nodded and gave her a small smile of a facade.

”Ah yes, sorry. My name Is Jaeger, Jaeger Nekros Krüger. I am a member of the Sleeping Forest Guild.”

The man rubbed the back of his head and gave her a slight bow to his new acquaintance.

”And what is your name, beautiful?”

The old man that intruded on them was happy, yet irritated. To him, the mages were taking un necessary time to greet and meet, his job was of urgency! He was growing impatient, that much could be seen on his face. Again, the young Nature mage rubbed the back of his head and apologized to the elder. They really should be on their way, since they both accepted the contract.

So after her name was given, and everything with the contract giver was settled, Jaeger would turn towards the exit. It would have been better to get to know one another before the job, but hey, there will be more time for that as they search the desert for the cartel.

"All right, all right! relax man, we got this." Kiru exclaimed as the old man interrupted again. Even though this sounded like it was important, Kiru didn't seem to feel the urgency. She tilted her head and lazily stared at the old man with her hazy cyan colored eyes as he continued to complain about the mage's slowness to get to work. After which, the man introduced himself as Jaeger Nekros. She wasn't even going to try and pronounce his last name. Apparently he was a member of the sleeping forest guild.

"I uhh... I'm Kiru Nivani. Of Black Rose." Kiru said in a more quiet voice giving of a faint smile after his comment. "I guess we start heading off then? If i was the leader of a bandit clan who just stole a giant piece of lacrima... Where in the desert would I hide?"

Success! The man was greeted with a faint smile upon the young womans lips. It was the proud moment of the day, even if it were only small accomplishment. Jaeger was also blessed with her name and guild, much like he gave her. “Black Rose…. Huh?” He questioned to himself. IT had been his first time meeting a member of that guild. If memory serves from reading, it was a guild that focused on monster hunting. Though, the information he had was rather limited, so the man wasn't sure if it was accurate or not.

“Well, Miss Kiru, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

A smile of his own came front. It was a hard thing to do, keeping a straight face around such a pretty lady. Even if the job demanded it, it just wasn’t in his nature to do so. However, the time for investigation was to begin! Their detective hats would have to be put on and their natures hidden. The two needed to find a giant lacrima or store of lacrima and return it to this man. As they were both ready, the two mages would head off for the general exit that led into the desert.

Kiru’s question was their first point. Where would bandits hide the lacrima? It was a vast place such as the desert? They couldn't be too far, right? The group would need to be close enough to make use of the wastelands only known water supply yet far enough to not be discovered. What if they were ballsy enough to store it somewhere in the oasis? That was always a possibility. Hide the stolen goods in plain sight. The simplest option Often turned out to be the last and correct solution.

“Hmmm, Well it really depends on how courageous of a cartel they are. We’ll likely be searching for their Headquarters. Which may or may not be in the city, it may very well be out in the desert itself.

…

We should probably decided on if we should start the search at the Oasis first or in the Desert itself. Even if it was here, it’d likely be disguised to blend in. A shop or some sort of legitimate business, right?”

Kiru thought silently to herself as Nekros explained his way of thinking. He sounded right for the most part, she really had no reason to argue with his thoughts. So then Kiru decided to search the desert itself. If the Bandints really did steal a giant piece of lacrima, they'd need to hide it out of site of the people. They weren't really known for taking up residence in populated areas. So Kiru relayed her thinking to her companion.

"We should search the desert first. I highly doubt they'd be hiding a giant lacrima within the city." then again there was the problem about finding the bandits in such an open desert... Kiru thought silently to herself for another moment, then suddenly an idea popped into her head! "I have an idea how we can make these bandits come out of hiding. The bandits are commonly known for harassing travelers all the time. I say we dress up like merchants. That will probably get their attention. Then, when they come to steal out 'goods' we beat ht he rap out of them, and interrogate one until he tells us where their base is!" She said, sounding very excited with the plan that formulated in her mind! Her fist clenched in front of her as she looked over to Nekros.

The woman didn’t think too much of the cartel being in the city, not really entertaining that idea. Kiru believed it to be out in the desert and that was likely the safe bet. It was true, Jaeger wasn’t crazy or sold on the idea of them hiding in the oasis himself. The odds of that were low, so their efforts would have been better used to search the surrounding desert. Not only that, hiss oreo haired partner had na idea on how to confront the cunning cartel. The plan? It was to dress up as merchants and go travelling through the sandy tundra.

“Cosplaying as Merchants, huh? Yeah… that’d work! We’d need to single out the weakest link of the group while we fight. Easier to break with questions or threats.”

Jaeger replied, stroking his goatee as he thought on the plan. There was nothing wrong with it and it was sound. They would have to make sure to conserve themselves so most of their fighting power and spirit was used in the HQ and recovering the lacrima. Behind them, the old man was trying to follow sneakily, though he was doing a poor job. The old man was stubbing his feet on boxes, knocking things over, and he was being rather loud about apologizing to the other people affected by his failed stealth mission. It would seem he didn’t fully trust them to either keep him in the loop or find his merchandise.

“Hey, Sir, you’re not exactly the stealthiest of follower, but since you’re close by, mind helping us with the plan? We could use some clothing and a fake caravan, ya know, a cart of empty crates, a horse or something to pull, and merchant like clothing.”

The old man wasn’t thrilled, they were his clothing and belongings that’d be put up for this plan to go forward. However, the lure and necessity of getting that lacrima back overrided anything else he was worried about. The geezer quickly ran off to gather what was needed, taking no time to get back with a cart, horse and clothing for the two. Jaeger grabbed some of the garb and quickly got dressed. He kept the clothing loose and more of a disguise he could easily take off when the time is right.

“How do I look?”

Jaeger asked as he turned to the multi colored haired beauty.
