    I HAVE BECOME DEATH
    the destroyer of worlds
    TAGGED: ...   |   WORDS: 1635   |  NOTES: ...
Oshibana: the small, friendly town, whose focal point was that of the train, connecting it to other towns, such as Magnolia and Clover Town. While the town was known for its friendliness, not everyone within the confines of the village were of kind nature, especially the one who Marcel was contracted by. This person had requested for a neighbor's pet to be killed, simply because it was getting in her garden and she could do nothing about it. Death was the one who told him who needed to die, but he did not know that it involved the death of beloved pets as well. No matter, an animal was an animal, a person was a person; at some point, every soul will have tasted Death in their lifetime. It did not matter to him who was to be taken from this miserable world, so long as they no longer existed under the orders of Death, himself. He was merely the knight who blindly followed the orders of his leader, nothing more and nothing less; those who died meant little to him.

Ashes blew from the direction of Savage Skull's headquarters, weaving their way toward the small town, until they were gently floating above the buildings. They dove downward, darting among the townsfolk, sliding between them, till the ashes reached the door to the home of the neighbor and their pet. The ashes spun together, into a small-scale tornado, then dispersed in a puff of cloud, to reveal a crimson-cloaked man at the doorstep. He somberly made his way up to the steps and clasped the door-handle in his hand, the metal starting to corrode. Slowly, he turned the knob and pushed the door open, alerting the beast inside to someone coming home. The dog growled almost menacingly in Marcel's direction, then barked and came charging from the kitchen, hair raised on the back of its neck. Marcel growled back at it, which only antagonized the beast more, then faked a move toward it, causing the creature to attack.

As the beast launched itself at Marcel, he slammed a fist into the rib cage, just above where the heart was located, ultimately causing decomposition to start. It yelped as fur fell from its body and skin began to grotesquely peel away, revealing muscle and bone beneath, with blood oozing out of the injury. Cowering away from the mage, the dog sat down and turned to its injury, lapping at it with its tongue, in hope of making the pain stop. Touching the decaying part of its body only caused the process to spread and grow quicker; its tongue beginning to rot away now. He frowned at the creature and with the heel of his boot, kicked the dog in one of its legs, shattering the bone. In response to the attack, the animal pulled away, even limping, to get away from Marcel as it cried out in pain. Smirking, he followed after the beast, his boots clumping against the ground as he pursued the dying being, with the porch decaying in the process as well.

It crumbled as he walked; the wood falling to pieces with each of his steps as his aura ate away the life within it. He rounded a corner of the house, blessed that the poor appeared to surround the entirety of the building. Up ahead, he spotted the beast sitting on the ground and licking violently at its body, which was now half decayed away. After a few more moments, which all had taken him to get to the animal, the beast had laid down on its side. Its breathing had slowed down, for the decaying aura had reached the lungs of it, resulting in the creature not being able to breathe well. Marcel knelt down next to it and tilted his head some, staring at the being as it died and merely watching his work. No need was there for him to use his magic, for the sickly touch of his hands did all the work for the young mage.

Reaching a hand out to the pet, the man placed it on the beast's side, enjoying the shallow rising and falling of its breath. The smile remained plastered on his ill-begotten face, and he trailed his fingers over the remaining bits of the animal. Eventually, the decay took all of what had been left, leaving nothing, but the clean, white bones of the dog. Marcel stood back to his feet and stared down at the remains of what had been the neighbor's beloved pet. Silently, the mage lifted his right foot and stepped on the bones, crushing them beneath the heel of his boot. It was the sickening sound of the crunching bones that satisfied the ears of Death's servant, until all they were was dust. From there, he brought his hand to hover over the bone dust, and it swirled up into his palm, turning into cremated ash.

Nothing was left here for him to do, unless he wanted to ransack the house, but there wasn't anything of interest to him. So, the mage gave a final glance around before his body, too, turned to ash and he was blown away with the wind. He traveled through the small town, past all of the people walking the streets, until he reached his contractor's home. Once there, he appeared in his natural form again, and walked up the steps to the door, the grass and flowers dying in his wake. He lightly knocked on the door, though the knuckles of his fist caused that to decay and before long, no door existed. Standing before him, however, was a beautiful, young woman that had asked for him to murder to the neighbor's pet. With no smile on his face, the mage opened the palm of his hand, that revealed the white dust of bones of the animal.

The woman glanced down at the white powder in his hand, and slowly nodded her approval to the Savage Skull mage. She turned from him and disappeared around a corner in her house, and he could hear rummaging in a room. Soon after, the woman returned with the cash prize that she promised him after the deed, and he dumped the dust on the ground to grab it. With the jewels in hand, the mage stuffed them into his pocket and looked back up to the woman's eyes momentarily. Sparks narrowing to slits, the man thought through possibilities in his head, but then turned away from her. Without another word exchanged between the mage crumbled into ashes for a final time and let the wind take him away. His deed was done, he could move onto the next job that he was contracted to do, and that happened to involved a letter.

Perhaps Fate would make them destined to meet again, and whether the meeting would be pretty or not, was yet to be decided. For one, he had many a thoughts in his head about the woman, but those thoughts would only remain as such. He hadn't minded working under her, she was a nice lady to him, and he would remember that for the future. It was almost impossible to find a contractor who was kind to their client when they took up their job offer. Still... Marcel had a feeling this would not be the end of which he had seen this woman... that Death was calling for her, too. For every soul was bound to taste Death and he would pleasantly take on the role of Death's servant to give what was needed. Besides, he enjoyed his job and he enjoyed meeting people he had once before, only for them to realize he was not there for a visit.

The wind merrily carried the ashes of Marcel away from the home of his contractor, leaving that to decay in the process. It was not what he had meant in the least bit, it was merely the magic that he owned that caused such catastrophes. Hopefully, the woman would not be upset about it, for she had known of his magic when he took up the job. Regretfully, he did not want to pay the expenses if it resulted in the woman losing her home because of its workings. Such a relaxing job that had been though, as the working of decomposition had always intrigued the mage. His magic worked in ways that barely anyone understood, even himself, so it was interesting to watch the dog die. In a way, it was also satisfying to watch it crumple to the ground as it slowly and painfully rotted away.

Till death do we part and in more ways than one, could Marcel think just what exactly the meaning was to that. The end goal of life is always death, and it made him wonder just how many people searched for an early ending. Did animals do such a thing as humans did or were they so mindless as to the thought their lives would end one day? Was that why the dog had freaked out over the decaying of its skin and tearing away of its life as he took it? Perhaps that was the truth; perhaps, everything in the world feared Death, even if they didn't think about it much or at all. If that was a the truth, then why was it that everything feared Death? Was it because of the unknown? No certainty of life after death or some other reason he couldn't comprehend? Without another thought to the means of Death and its destruction, the mage let himself be carried on to his next job. Onto what would be the death of a dear man and the relationship that he so held close to him and cherished...
