I truly can't help it. Look at poor me sitting here, all alone in this god-forgotten shithole, waiting till the end comes near. It's just saddening-- no, grieving even, to let it end like this. I mean, dear papa had me all prepared to face the world, to fight my way up and rise above all and everyone, and now.... The journey alone already filled with danger and countless obstacles, yet I passed all of them with verve, only to hear that I wasn't even close! Can you imagine the disappointment? I mean-

    "Uh, excuse me ma'am-"

What? Can't you see I'm busy narrating myself? Get out before I throw you out myself!

    "But-uh, I-I....er..."

But I WHAT? I told you to only talk to me when we're arriving in Magnolia, so stop pestering me and leave. Like immediately.

"That's the point ma'am, we ARE in Magnolia. Uh, were, to be precise..."

"What?! Why didn't you tell me earlier, you idiot!" The white-haired woman shouted, jumping upright whilst slamming her knee against one of the little tables in-between the seats, drily breaking it off as she stormed forth through the compartment, leaving the baffled employee behind. The man, uncertain where this situation was actually going to end, trotted after the temperamental client he was supposed to look after as she passed through three compartments. Several of the other passengers in the train looked up at the sudden passing of the young woman, the employee apologetically shrugging his shoulder as he on his turn came by. As he looked back at his charge, the poor man noticed how frantically she was moving about, as if searching for something. Knowing it wasn't his place to ask, he still decided to take the risk and caught up with the white-haired woman, tapping her shoulder as to get her attention and freezing on the spot once seeing those blood-red eyes piercing into his.

"May I ask what ma'am perhaps is looking for?"

"I. Am looking for a--door" Her eyes scanned through the last unexplored parts of the train and discerned a steel bar a bit up ahead, which she presumed to be the handle of a large door. "Ah! There it is!" she said with a smile, clapping her hands and about to walk off again as she recalled the employee still in her wake and turned on the back of her heels, now facing the man and giving him a somewhat rough slap on the shoulder. "Well, I won't be needing you anymore, so you can stop following me now. Unless you want to get off as well, but I doubt you're that persistent, right?" The smile she flashed gave the man cold shivers, and his very being screamed in protest of what he was to say next.

"My apologies, Ma'am, but I don't think I can let you board the trai--"

A fist slammed into the wall behind him and a shrill squeal left his body, shaking unstoppably as he faced up to gaze upon his attacker's calm, peaceful visage. When their eyes met however, he cowered once again and sunk towards the floor. Halfway his descend was stopped and the man pulled back to his feet by none other than the white-haired woman, who raged in silence, but with a fierceness to scare even the most vicious of predators.

"Allow me to help you with that, then. I, and I repeat, I, shall do as I please... And you- if you value your life, I'd suggest you shut your trap and stop thinking. For once, that might be the smartest thing you do." Loosening her grip on the man's collar he smacked back unto the floor, whilst several of the other passengers stared at the twosome, as curious as they were shocked by the occurring event. Ageha kicked the man out of her way and looked down on him with a despicable gaze before facing all the staring gazes, answering every single one of them with an intimidating glare that promptly made them turn around and mind their own business.

"Tsk. All people are the same... Hey, midget!" The employee cringed and nodded to show he'd heard her call. "Ageha Mohra--- remember the name, pall, and make sure not to make any mistakes if we were to meet again. For your own sake." And with that, Ageha left the pitiful heap of misery be and proceeded towards the door, pulling it open with little effort and gazing out as the scenery passed at frightening speed. Ageha stuck her head out, looking left and right again before popping it back in. Then, without another word, she leapt outside of the rattling train, bracing for the impact of the crash landing.

A slightly battered Ageha slowly pushed herself back on her knees, a grunt escaping from somewhere deep within her body. "Ugh... stupid headache." She muttered while pressing her palms against her temples, hoping for the pain to fade. Although she'd guessed this to be the outcome, she still had to go and have a glass of that awfully superb 30 year-old Bourbon. It had tasted like her own private piece of Heaven on Earth, er- I mean, disgusting. Yuck. Being susceptible to alcohol had its pros and cons, but in Ageha's case it only proved to be the latter; as one who could certainly appreciate a glass of such refined beverages, she couldn't even barely take a single drop, leave alone drink an entire glass without feeling the side-effects. The fact that a huge part of her memory of this day had been reduced to a black hole confirmed it even more; she'd been drunk. Not just tipsie or out of it, but genuinely wasted. God knows what she'd done during those uncontrolled moments... she just hoped it wasn't anything too bad. Otherwise that would've been quite the shiner on Sorcerer Weekly's headlines; "New Rune Knights recruit wrecks havoc on train to Magnolia." Lovely cover that would've been, Ageha reckoned that even she would stop to read the article dedicated to her exploits.

Then it dawned on her. Train. She'd been on a train. There was no doubt about it, as she still clearly recalled having bought the ticket and seating herself somewhere near a window in the second carriage... And this definitely wasn't the train she'd departed with. Then where the hell was she now? Her red eyes scanned the environment and perceived the rail road not too far to her left, approximately 100 meters away from her current location. A trail laid to the place she sat now, thus concluding that she'd dragged herself here before passing out. Typical. Her right elbow stung as she moved it against her leg and, upon closer examination, showed to have been covered in bruises. Quickly checking the rest of her body for bruises, she too discovered a small cut here and there, as well as an enormous bruise on the side of her ribs. The pieces finally fit the puzzle that bode the answer to the question she'd been bothered with. That question being 'How the hell did I end up here?'. Simple.

She'd jumped out of the train. Like any other rational human being would, she'd jumped. Out of a train. A freaking train. Ageha could've hit herself, weren't it for the headache and countless bruises being enough of a punishment by themselves already. Her hands dug into the dust, leaving small traces as she clenched her hands and pushed herself up in one go. The sudden movement made her dizzy, but she ignored the feeling and stumbled forward towards a nearby tree, where she thankfully leant against to get used to standing up straight again. It took her a few minutes to loose the dizziness that accompanied the awful headache, but she managed somehow. A sharp pain shot through her temples, making her bent double in agony as the memory flashed past in a blurry mess.

Within the darkness she could see a man's face lighting up every now and then, looking at her with a grimace and fear capturing his eyes. His voice echoed through her head as if he was talking to her from far away, muted yet clearly audible.

"That's the point ma'am, we ARE in Magnolia. Uh, were, to be precise..."

Ageha snapped back into reality, gasping for breath as she stumbled back against the tree. "Were in Magnolia, eh...?" she muttered to herself as she slowly caught her breath and staggered forward. So 9 out of 10 she'd just passed Magnolia's station... which meant that if she took into account the direction she was facing, along with the drag marks in her wake, Magnolia would be located somewhere to the East. How far to the East however she did not know. She just hoped it wouldn't be too far off, or that job her father had sent her for would end in a failure... which wasn't exactly the thing she was hoping for.

    { Three hours later..., Magnolia }

Of Tricky Trains and Manly Men TzMg8dP

Tired, plagued by a massive headache and aching all over; that's how the newest recruit of the Rune Knights sauntered into Magnolia. To hell with that hopeful memory of having 'just' passed Magnolia station. In the end she'd been better off walking West to the the station located at the next village and take a train back instead of walking the entire way. It would've saved her two hours at the very least, and would've done wonders to her current state of mind. But no. Oh boy no. At this point Ageha wasn't just mad, she was genuinely pissed. Not only at herself, but at the entire world around her. As she gradually made her way towards the client's house the Steel mage valiantly hoped for the woman in question to not tick her off any further. Otherwise Cain Aeris Relrye, General-ranked henchman of a certain Magic Council member, would rue the day he'd sent his foster-daughter out on this errand. Alas, Ageha hadn't expected the concerning woman to only be the one requesting aid... for the client in this case proved to be that bit more than just a handful.

A woman in her mid-thirties carefully opened the door and stared upon the silver-haired mess standing in her doorstep. Only after being shown the make-shift tattoo Cain had given her in anticipation of her actual Rune Knight tattoo, the woman had allowed her to enter the residence, where she was lead towards a fancy parlour and given something to drink. Ageha'd wisely opted to keep the drinking to a glass of water, and when finally seated, let out an appeasing sigh, which was frowned upon by her hostess, Ms. Pendlar. She shook her head and gestured her client to start the conversation as she nipped from her water. Ugh. Tasteless... Refreshing, but tasteless.

"So you're Sir Cain's daughter? He did say you were capable, but I didn't expect you to be so-..."

"Small? Yes, most people tend to say that. But mind you that I already passed the threshold of adulthood for several a year, ma'am. I am more potent than my constitution would give..."

"I-is that so? Well, good to know, but I sincerely hope these aren't just words of bravado, young miss. My husband tends to get, how should I put this," The woman tapped the arm rest of the chair for a few moments as she searched for the right words. "Quite absorbed in his doings, if so to speak. You see, he never really appreciated the more modern means of transport, and developed a fear for one in particular, which is quite ironic when compared to our youngest son, who simply adores tr-"

As if summoned by the unknown, a five year-old boy ran towards its mother from the other side of the room, a small toy clenched within his little fist. "Mommy, mommy, look! I found it!" The child smiled, proudly showing a miniature locomotive of the newest Fiore Express. Ms. Pendlar smiled and patted her son's head. "Well done, my dear... Now be a good boy and say hello to young Miss Relrye, will you?"

The kid turned towards Ageha and flashed the biggest of smiles, one so cheerful and innocent that it even melted Ageha's foul mood. She returned the smile as the kid trotted over to her side. "Hello miss! Look!" The kid held up his hands. "I like trains!" The steel mage couldn't help but chuckle. "Haha, yes you do." She said, ruffling the boy's hair, who on his turn giggled and trotted back to the corner to resume playing.

"Nice kid. Anyway, as you were saying...?" The Rune Knight recruit said as she turned her attention back to Ms. Pendlar, who nodded and took a sip of her tea. "Yes, my husband. Well... unlike my son, he has a great dislike for trains. In other words, hate them from the bottom of his heart, and thus refuses to set foot upon them. Although I'm quite certain it's rather fear than hatred keeping him from boarding trains, his pride prevents him from being truthful."

"If I may speak freely, I don't really see the problem at hand here, Ms Pendlar. If he doesn't like trains, then he can take many other means of transport, no?"

"Yes... Unless he gets last-minute calls that force him to travel by train. This one in particular has been handed down this morning, so I'm quite thankful you could come here so quickly. He needs to get to Hargeon by 10am tomorrow, or he will lose his job and destroy his career. Since there aren't any carriages that'd get him there on time, going by train is the only option to secure his career."

"Oh, like that... I see. That indeed is a grave situation. But why hire someone? I mean, you should've been able to persuade him in some way, right? Or hire some muscles to drag him along?"

"Persuading has no use, as he quit his last job when they forced him to travel by train. Hiring a bulky powerhouse wouldn't allow him to get to his destination in one piece, hence why I hoped Sir Cain would be able to aid us, and the very reason you are here right now."

The silver-haired youth nodded in understanding and stood up. "Then don't you worry any further, madam. Upon my honor as Rune Knight and that of my father's, I'll bring your husband to his destination. Unscathed." Ageha smiled for a moment before returning to the usual composure she had when on the job and turning on the back of her heels, ready to let herself out. "I'll be waiting outside. May I entrust you with the preparations of your husband's journey? Tell him you've found means to travel to Hargeon without the use of trains and I'm sure he'll get by." With that said, the young woman marched out of the parlour and left the residence, awaiting the arrival of her true client on the pavement in front of the Pendlar Residence.

Mr. Pendlar was your average salary-man, but somehow managed to exert a certain amount of arrogance other people would've stayed oblivious to. This arrogance showed itself whenever Ageha even swerved but a step towards the station. It bothered her greatly, but she had to earn his trust and make him lower his guard just a bit so she could actually get him to his destination. Said progress of trust-earning and guard-lowering endeavours had to be conducted within the next fifteen minutes if she were to catch the last train. The man, tall, glasses adorning his edgy nose, and eyes similar to that of a deer staring at the headlights of an incoming car.

"Uhm, mister Pendlar, sir, I have a little request regarding our transportation."

"We're not taking that goddamn train. Ever. I mean, never."

"Yes yes, your wife told me, so I prepared a better way to get you to Hargeon. Buuuut..." Ageha's last words dragged on, reminding the train-phobiac of a child trying to get something from its parents.

    "But what?"

"I came by train, and forgot my bag at the station. Alas, the bag holds the items required for our travel, so I need to get it back first."

"And what would these items be, then?"

"Simple, everything we need to activate the teleportation scroll I got from father."

"Teleportation... scroll? I never heard of something like that before."

"Of course you wouldn't! It's still in a beta phase and only available to the Magic Council's private guards, but father was so kind to lend me one. I was planning on using it to return home after this errand, since I myself am not so fond of trains either, but I guess I can use it on you instead."

Mr. Pendlar nodded slightly, seemingly pleased with the thought that he wasn't the only one with a dislike for trains, and relaxed a bit. The silver-haired mage had noticed his change in stance, indicating that her plan was coming along smoothly. Only when Mr. Pendlar started thinking about the so-called Teleportation Scroll, she noticed him growing less fond of the idea, meaning she had to make her move quickly now.

"You're probably thinking that there's a catch to this, right? To be honest, there IS one, but its merely a practical one. You'll have to come along to the train station with me."

The man's facial expression grew grim almost instantly. "And why would I have to tag along? There's no need for me to-"

"Yes, and then risking to loose sight of you when I'm off? No thanks. Secondly, there's no way in hell I'm going to go there on my own! That place is freaking scary!" She wasn't lying about the fact that train stations scared the shit out of her; there were few other places where people were so uncaring about their fellow countrymen as at train stations. Then again, if you caught one of these people's attention you were destined to be stared upon for the rest of your life. The very thought made her shiver in fear.

"Tell me about it..." The man sighed. "Okay, fine, but I'm not going any further than the entrance!"

"I can live with that, Mr. Pendlar. Can I call you Bob?"

    "No."

    "Bob it is then!"

"But I told you-" Bob Pendlar tried to protest, but was cut short halfway his sentence as Ageha firmly clasped her hand around his wrist and dragged him forth. "No time to waste, Bobert, we gotta catch a tra---gically lost bag."

Of course, this entire thing was just a big, spill-of-the-moment-plotted sham. If Mr. Pendlar had had more spine, the man might've actually gotten the young Rune Knight to confess the entire thing, but now she'd found his weak spot, he would never escape her semi-prankster scheme. Mr.Pendlar stumbled along, still confused about the random question whether she could call him by his first name. Not that he'd minded it in the end, but Bob wasn't even his real name! Instead the man tried to pull himself loose several times, but all for naught. By the time they reached the train station, the poor salary man had given up on ever seeing freedom again, and was now plagued by a youth with an inhumanly sturdy grip and an aching wrist.

Halting at the entrance, Ageha released the poor soul of his torture and tried her hardest to conceal a grin creeping up her face when Mr. Pendlar started rubbing his wrist. She turned away, her face cracking in a smile as she stared off into the distance for a moment, giving the man a minute to get back on his even. Turning back around, she addressed her client with verve, pulling a pokerface for yet another round of acting.

"Now we've finally arrived, I think it's time for me to find my bag. If you wouldn't mind, could you wait a bit further down the hall, near that huge clockwork? That way it'll be easier to pinpoint you when I'm finished." Flashing a gentle smile to melt the man's doubting heart, Ageha extended her arm, which now lead inside the train station. "Please Bob, who knows where my bag is? Maybe somebody already picked it up and decided to keep it..." Ageha shamelessly played on the man's conscience, eventually getting him where she wanted him; underneath the large clockwork, and conveniently beside the main stairs that lead to the lower-located train platforms. She made sure to take another route down the platforms after promising Mr. Pendlar she'd return soon, so he wouldn't even be able to jest her intentions. Thus the young mage now lurked at the man from the other side of the main staircase, her fingers tingling as a single, near-invisible wire grew from each of her right hand's fingertips. As she wasn't using the entire spell, the aura that normally engulfed her wasn't present, merely the black-goldish shimmer around her hands betrayed that she was actually using her magic. Although small, these wires were capable of each lifting and restraining an adult wyvern without breaking.

Mr. Pendlar never noticed how the wires silently drew closer, and gradually creeped up on him. They now laid at his feet, unnoticed and unseen, awaiting the specific movements of their creator's fingertips to move in for the kill. Or catch, in this case. When glancing at the clockwork towering above him, Ageha struck the off-guard Mr. Pendlar, who was lifted of the ground and now dangled in mid-air, holding on to the railing of the staircase for dear life. At this moment, Ageha could've hit herself for not taking that into account, and gestured her hands backward in a pulling motion. She had to admit Mr. Pendlar did have quite the grip, seeing as he withstood the strength of her pulling wires so easily. A grunt escaped the youthful mage as she walked up the stairs, wires still fervently trying to pull the man loose.

    "Bob!"

    "Wha- YOU! What's happening?!"

    "Let go, Bob!"

"Never! You're bringing me to one of those trains, aren't you?"

"And so what if I am? You can't go anywhere, so let go!"

    "No!"

    "Bob!"

"I told you, that's not my name!"

    "Marvin-Jon-Lysandre?"

"Always the same. That's not my name, goddamnit! And LET.ME.GO."

"I can't, I promised your wife, Bob! Just let go so we can get in the train an-" Only now Ageha noticed how many pairs of eyes had pinned themselves upon the showcase she and Mr. Pendlar had been doing. Breaking out in cold sweat, her grip loosened as she backed away, effortlessly searching for a place to hide herself from those staring eyes. Mr. Pendlar however had gladly taken the advantage of the weakening mage and now stood back upon the ground, unbeknownst that he was still linked to one of the wires. He, however, was furious for the way he had been treated and marched towards the shivering girl, who now looked a lot less confident than a moment ago.

    "I, eh, sorry..."

"What? Sorry? You think that'll cut it?"

    "But I-"

"You nothing! What gives you the right to treat people that way, huh?!"

    "I just wanted--"

"As if! YOU, dear lassy, are an utter disgrace to the Rune Knights and your retainer! Trust me when I say this isn't over yet, this will have consequences, you hear me?!" The man bellowed, his face looked like it could explode for a moment, whilst the Rune Knight recruit merely cringed in silence to his infuriated rant. It was true that she was a disgrace right now, but it ticked her off that the man was so willingly rubbing it in her face in front of so many people. After a moment of absolute silence, Mr. Pendlar resumed his rant, though this time slightly calmer.

"God, what did your parents do to raise such a failure of a child."

    "Excuse me?"

"Don't be cocky, brat, you heard what I said. Or should I teach you that as well? Maybe I should have a talk with them instead?"

"Leave them out of it." Ageha growled upon hearing him mention her parents. Although she remembered little of them, she couldn't stand anyone mentioning them when they knew nothing about them.

"Oh? Scared of getting punished by them as well? Seeing the failure you are in their eyes?"

    "Shut up..."

"What did you say? Well, don't worry, now I'll certainly inform Captain Relrye of this matter! And of course, I'll put down a complaint against you-"

"SHUT UP, YOU BASTARD!" Out of nowhere, Ageha jumped forth, eyes seething with rage as her fist connected with Mr. Pendlar's cheek and sent him flying into the clockwork with a loud bang. Enraged, the young mage stampeded after the man, who now laid on the ground as a miserable heap. This very moment came to her as a déjà vû, but she ignored the thought and pulled Mr. Pendlar back unto his feet. "I told you to shut your yap, didn't I?! But oh no, you had to keep on talking!
