    Job:

    Javel

    Savage Skull

The Savage Skull guild was a lone and desolate one, very fitting given its location and reputation. Leaning on one of the many pillars of the grand yet empty hall was the aloof Javel. The pitch black darkness seems to have hid his presence from the outside world, only illuminated by the Lantern in his hand that hung over his other, holding a specific mission slip in it. He was very fixated on the piece of paper as he found himself reading it over and over again. Not once did he look up to observe his surroundings for anyone potentially looking at him.

Javel had an emotionless face as his eyes were locked on the mission slip. But, like many would say, looks can be very deceiving. And indeed it was; Javel was angry, seething with hatred as his blood boiled at the sight of the contents bestowed on the piece of paper. It was almost as if his normally dull blue eyes were glowing from the hatred within. And what, one may ask, would the dark mage feel so upset about? The answer is simple and logical, as any dark mage in his situation would feel the same amount of disgust when presented with any job involving rune knights.

Javel hated the rune knights, his anger towards them only matched by his hate towards the Magic Council itself. His anger was misguided, but justified ever since he came to Fiore only to come under opposition from the nation's government not too soon after smuggling himself in. Things were bad enough before then, and the rune knights only made everything worst for him; the hell and humiliation that he had to endure for, not months, but years as he forced on the run like a dog with its tail between its legs to evade capture. No one never understood or even hope to understand him and as a result, no one could be trusted.

Not one day goes by with Javel dreaming of revenge and to deliver a brutal justice upon the Council that so greatly deserved it, a punishment fitting for involving themselves with a conflict they had no right to be in. And with the discovery of this assassination contract, his vengeance could now become a reality. He would leave at dusk and wreck havoc upon those that wronged him.

It seems as tho today’s weather would rain, according to the lacrima vision that reveals the broadcast of today’s weather report, though Savage Skull may appear to be desolate, dry and a cold place to be, all members of the guild including the footmen were fast at responding to others such as Dubhlainn would issue a command to prepare the dominion for rain. Why would this matter? That’s because of the fact that some areas in Savage Skull that has collected rainwater barely dries up.

He is after all the Captain of the Guards afterall.

He only recently came back from the underworld to collect job ads for the dark guilds and distributes them evenly in order to maintain the operations on all three factions. It was not just request papers that he brought back but also supply crates of good food and fresh water, good enough to last for months, Lord Harrigan told Dubhlainn to take care of the guild and he did so by contributing to how the guild can sustain itself, however these methods were somewhat questionable as they were brought in and earned in the most honest of ways. Much like Javel he shown no expression, but not because of hatred but rather it was due to the fact that war robbed him most of his ability to express himself and took everything from him.

“You’ve been look at that piece of paper for a while now; I see you decided to choose to answer the Azeron alliance’s request to eliminate a Rune Knight foothold down the river village. Do not tell me you intend to go there by yourself.” He can see small hints of hatred in this man. Dubhlainn had never have any trouble with the rune knights as much as the rest of the guild as a matter of fact, befriending the rune knights in Era was actually the reason he was getting all these supplies, in fact he is one of the personal training instructors for the Rune Knight recruits but of course the guild doesn’t know that yet. This doesn’t mean he’s betraying the dark guilds but this was all for the benefit of contributing to the financial well-being of the guild as well.

    Javel

    Savage Skull

Javel could hear footsteps coming towards his direction and he looked up, finally taking his eyes off the mission paper. And surprised by source, he was. Approaching him was none other than the Savage Skull captain of the guard, who seemed to have noticed the sole dark mage deep in his thoughts amidst the empty hall. The latter acknowledged the veteran mage's presence after hearing him speak and responded with a nod. "Captain Dubhlainn..."

Javel stood up and displayed the piece of paper to Dubhlainn following the former's remark about the mission itself. His cold exterior equally matched by the other dark mage's as the two looked at one another; it was like staring at a reflection of a mirror. Ironic, it was because of such stoic display that neither could completely understand one another; Javel had little clue to what the man was thinking at the moment and the words he spoke to him could be interpreted in many ways. It reminded him, the dark mage never saw the captain much whenever he stopped by the guild, Javel only learned of his existence when Viktor first introduced Savage Skull to him. It could be that the former was busy with keeping the integrity of the guild intact, so for him to approach Javel must've meant something else; this was a chance to potentially understand his guildmates as well as their ideals for the guild itself. He asked the captain, "Tell me, captain; do you believe that the world is a fair place?"

Just what did Savage Skull mean to Dubhlainn? What kind of man was the captain before him? And most importantly of all, what ideals and beliefs did he hold in deep regard underneath his emotionless shell? Javel wanted to know.

The world that is fair and just?

The last time he heard these words was that it came from one of his former comrades during the endless conflicts held in Mirai. Dubhlainn proceeded to pin up all the remaining job advertisements on the request board. “The world can never be a fair place Javel, I can tell you two things about it actually, if the context was in a form of one’s perception, one’s own wish for a world to be fair to them, then that’s just but a mere illusion and if by chance that the world would start being fair to you then society and foundations will crumble down to chaos, the world bowing down to the will of one man is a nightmare that none would ever wish. There are times when you see someone getting more than what he apparently deserves, while some people get much less than what they deserve. This, I have seen, is especially true in terms of professional life. Its sad really.” Dubhlainn dusted off his hand as he finishes pinning all the job posts on the board.

“You sound like a victim of a necessary evil, I do believe the reason for you asking me this may have been relating to the rune knights, correct me if I’m wrong.” Dubhlainn can’t be wrong, he knew that this is one of the many issues that dark mages have which is why they come to groups who share the same sentiments. Plus Javel was gripping that piece of paper almost as if he’s having an internal conflict.

Dubhlainn didn’t want to assume the relationship… out of all the dark mages of the Azeron alliance other than Viktor, Dubhlainn himself has absolutely no struggles with the Rune Knights, he’s one of the training instructors after all.

    Javel

    Savage Skull

"Sad..." Javel found himself repeating the last word from Dubhlainn's opinion. He shook his head and broke eye contact; it was the answer Javel did not want to hear and certainly not one he would immediately accept but deep down knew that it was the cold truth of the world they lived in. The abstract concept of fairness was something the dark mage wanted to believe in, but knew it couldn't exist through the will of one man. He felt frustrated at the thought of it and replied. "The world being unfair...it makes me angry. The scars. The humiliation. The pain. The injustice that I had to go through gave me more questions than answers and I keeping asking myself - Why? Just why?"

The subtle hints of Javel's past were vague, as it was a secret not even the guildmaster knew. Few are aware that he is a foreigner from a distant land, but none would've ever guessed how he came to Fiore as the person he is now; even his full name remains shrouded in great mysteries that was beyond the comfort of the dark mage's sharing. Savage Skull has shown great mercy to him, a strange kindness he has not felt in years in the form of Viktor, but even then the dark mage felt that some secrets were better left untold.

He finally summoned the courage to look at Dubhlainn once more. "Since the world is unfair, is it wrong to try and make it fair? Is it wrong to deliver chaos upon those who greatly deserve it?"

He’s honest, he speaks what he has in mind and refrains from telling anything personal about himself, he’s not a complete fool, a man broken down because fate shaped him the way he is now. He nodded as Javel made his remarks and thus comes the question that sounded like he’s asking permission to vent his feelings out and take revenge. “I can only say this, everyone regardless of their alignment, affiliation are all those who seek good and happiness, we reach for our desires and whatever may please us, in the context of intent.” But of course in the context of methods, it is completely unethical, and as such ignorance was the only barrier that allows dark mages to go on and perform these atrocities as they please.

Of course everyone here is a dark mage, it goes with the occupation. “There’s never wrong in making it fair my friend, follow what you believe in, you’ll find your answer.” He picked up his umbrella and turned his back on Javel. They say it was going to rain and if Dubhlainn were to go outside he’d at least have an umbrella to use with him. “If you’re going to take that request alone, I can guarantee that you won’t be able to find the answer.”

Of course Javel would either get captured or killed if he went on that mission alone. “You’ll have to take someone with you, I rather not that we lose a guild member who’s still in pursuit of an answer, his way to freedom from his pitch black world.”

Those words didn’t sound like something a dark mage would say, then again Dubhlainn didn’t look the type either as he seemed to be more fitted to be with the Rune Knights but the question is why did he choose Savage Skull? If he keeps this up Dubhlainn might be considered a nuisance but his contributions to the guild such as providing for its security and delivering resources compensates for that… “abnormality” as a dark mage.

    Javel

    Savage Skull

Dubhlainn's next choice of words slightly resonated with Javel. Once more, he found himself repeating the last part of his sentences "The answer..."

The dark mage would've parted ways with this mage; that seemed to be end of what the captain had to say about the mission or so he thought. Much to the former's surprise, however, the latter had one major objection. "If you’re going to take that request alone, I can guarantee that you won’t be able to find the answer.”

Javel stopped dead in his tracks and turned around to face the captain once more, momentarily surprised by his honest remark. His response was a confused  "What?"

"You’ll have to take someone with you, I rather not that we lose a guild member who’s still in pursuit of an answer, his way to freedom from his pitch black world.”

Javel was astonished; just who was this man? In a sense, he reminded alot about himself; both were dark mages and yet even though they bear such titles, they seem to hold very firm and powerful beliefs. There was no doubt that this man was wise beyond his years and he was getting a sense of comradeship from him; just where exactly did the Savage Skull captain come from and where did he learn such honor and will? Javel had to give credit to the man for at least acknowledging the existence and respect of his fellow mages and he simply nodded to Dubhlainn's rather implicit offer to help.

Dubhlainn turned away and proceeded to head outside in the courtyard to a small armory. There were crossbows aligned properly for the crossbowmen to draw in case of an incoming siege, swords were all in one corner, pikes, shields and the most unusual weapons you’d see in the castle were the modernized firearms. A Rifle, a Handgun, a Blunderbuss a hunting rifle and some packages wrapped in plastic to which contents resemble lacrima but far more… advanced.

Dubhlainn gave his thanks to the one guarding the armory as he drew out the Sniper Rifle out from its case. He ordered one of his men to attend to Javel, if he has choosen his partner; the guard would be given the orders to open the gates. If he chooses to leave by himself then let no one stop him.

The River village is only half a day away from the spooky forest. You could say the Rune Knight Encampment on the village was just but an outpost, the longer it lingers the greater the chance that Savage Skull’s activities would be exposed, the more intel the Magic Council would receive about the Guild’s activities and movements. Its not just an outpost, a good and strong division has been requisitioned there and most of its men were armed literally to the teeth. Javel going there alone would be suicide. Even if he were to bring a partner, two mages against an entire division won’t be enough… unless of course their power would equally rival that of the men there.

Javel’s fury may be able to defeat them but numbers can bring him down no matter how careful he can be.

Javel followed the exiting captain as they left to attend to his equipment for preparation. Heading outside to the armory by the courtyard, Javel took notice of the sheer amount of weapons that laid ready to be used at an instant. Stacked and piled in a manner that would seem only fitting for knights in shining armor to use, the requip mage wondered just how exactly this man managed to get the funding and organization to create this kind of setup for the guard to utilize when needed. He watched as Dubhlainn ordered one of the guards to open the gates that lead to the outside forest while he prepared his weapons for the imminent mission. Javel waited for it to open and the cold ominous air filled in like an invisible tidal wave.

Turning to face Dubhlainn and noticing the mundane-fashioned rifle in his hand, he asked him. "If I may ask, captain, what is your plan?"

If the dark mage captain's offer of help was any indication, it mustn't be new to him. Dubhlainn had a very calm attitude and an figurative aura of a calculative fellow, and knowing is always half the battle. It was a stark contrast to Javel himself; never would he bother to think of elaborate plans - to him, it was all about brute-force and tenacity that got things done. Obviously, this mission wasn't going to be that simple...

Everything is Permitted (Javel and Dubhlainn) Empty Re: Everything is Permitted (Javel and Dubhlainn)

Post by Dubhlainn 14th April 2016, 3:03 am

He drew a piece of cloth and polished his rifle and starts cleaning its lens, once he’s done, he wielded it like he was supposed to and see if the crosshair on it is clean enough to see at a distance. “I’m not good at making plans like this when involves your grudge with the Rune Knights if I’m not entirely mistaken. I volunteered for this mission in order to help you satisfy that lust, to prevent you from being overwhelmed as you need not a squadron beating you down, I am more than enough.” He sounds confident, perhaps it’s because he intends to target anyone who would protect the commander heading the river village. During the old days when he was still working with the Task Force, two members are usually dispatched for a mission of this caliber. Every single member is a force to be reckoned with and Dubhlainn was no exception. He believes in Javel’s capabilities to satisfy as his partner but him having ask that question out is something that worried him.

It’s almost as if he’s been given a hint to his perception of the world, something he can’t accept because of the circumstances and if so, he dare not know what it maybe.

He took his time in selecting a weapon for this mission, his choice became final.
He chooses to wear a balaclava and it was enough.
This mission doesn’t require him to use any of it as the Rune Knights do not resort to using modern firearms like the Black Rose, though there were similar threats much like the Black Rose itself, such as the cartel that lives in Neutral Grounds or perhaps a marching force, a thousand men strong.

He’s made to fight an army without using any magic at all and if he dare uses it, it will be complete mediocrity, believing that there’s a way to accomplish what needs to be accomplished without using magic at all. Well he was born and experimented on originally to become some sort of anti-mage till circumstances granted him the honor of becoming a soldier, a knight.
“Right are we ready to depart then? If you not regret your decision the steal yourself and come, time does not wait for us… it expects us to move.” Dubhlainn ordered his men to open the gates. It was actually terrifying how someone likes him, who just joined the guild a few months before Javel had climb quickly to the rank of Captain, what more he influenced all his men to wield fire arms and mastery over military self-defense training and not just the basic training by those dotage instructors in bandit camps.

Dubhlainn’s military fighting style? He’s fit to be a bruiser but prefers to use techniques that involves the legs more, perhaps the only field in military defense training that he’s still bad at to this day. If one were to know Dubhlainn they’d notice his frequent use this style because he’s nurturing it, it has its flaws. His skill set with the use of only the legs is limited so one can’t say he’s a complete expert.

To be honest even some of the men he trained were better at this style than he is. It may not seem like it matter but it does, footing and legwork can definitely determine the outcome of battle and it doesn’t just affect mobility.
