Digging {Job|Solo}

Tane was requested to go to the Forgotten Desert this time. She was go dig out the remains of an ancient creature that were buried under the sands of the Forgotten Desert. She was not sure if she might be able to do it, but she went to the desert anyway with the equipment and tools. It was hot, even on the way to the desert, then in the desert itself. She did not bother going to meet the professor since it would have been a waste of time. She would go straight for the desert. The professor's assistant who had given her the tools for the job had also given her "co-ordinates" and a small device that told her the co-ordinates of the spot she was standing at. It was a very useful device in this situation. She thanked the assistant for helping her in helping the professor. Basically, he was helping the professor. Of course he was, he was the professor's assistant.

Tane did appreciate some of human inventions, but the rest were mostly unnecessary, in her opinion. Humans were always looking for a way to improve their lifestyles which is essentially making them a lot less active and lazier compared to when they had less inventions. Earth was slowly getting destroyed, while the human were trying to get more comfortable. It seemed what the Earth had given them was not enough. They were doing all sorts of things that were literally not necessary and Tane knew that. Fismuthians were completely different from the humans. They were peaceful and lived with what was given to them, but these beings - humans - they destroyed everything. And they were not done, they were still destroying Earth. Slowly, the planet that was once beautiful and perfect would go through enough destruction to become the exact opposite of what it was when it sprung into existence in the universe. She pitied the creator. Humans must be the most destructive beings in the universe.

The Desert was a naturally formed area where only sand accumulated and there were barely any plants. She knew of the notorious thorny plant known to mankind as 'cactus'. It was indeed thorny and dangerous although its stem was so full of juice that if Tane was thirsty in the desert she would have to attack on of those plants and find a way to juice it out so she could drink the liquid inside. Not that she was going to be thirsty or anything. She had brought enough water with her. She was not usually thirsty anyway. After all, she was no human. She adapted very well with changes in environment and whatnot. The heat of the desert slowly became normal temperature for her body, it was like she got immune to it. She kept trudging through the sandy dunes to reach the exact point. The assistant had also set the device so that it would start beeping when Tane reached th spot.

It was not long before she was going to reach it. The equipment that she was given would have caused her to tire if she were human, but being a Prestigious, she did not tire. Sweat never appeared on her skin, it was almost like a forbidden thing, but in reality it literally just did not show up on her skin. Tane smoothed her hair along the way, draping it to one side. She liked to do that. Actually, it had become a habit for her. She did it more out of habit than because it was a necessity like most girls, because they either got stuck to their skin with sweat or they got into their mouths. There were plenty of other reasons for them but Tane barely had any of those. She was not a normal girl, anyway. She was a Prestigious. She should not have these kind of problems in the first place. With all these weird thoughts filling her mind, she barely heard the beeping noise of the device.

Tane fished out the co-ordinate device from her tool bag. It stopped beeping after she pushed the red button she was instructed to push by the assistant. She put it back in the bag then backed up a bit. Since the device beeped, it meant that she was standing right on the spot. Tane yanked out the retractable shovel and sank it in the sand with the blade facing down of course. She used her feet to put more force before shoveling out sand, forming a small pit. Then she kept doing this for a while. It took about an hour until she could literally stand inside the space she had dug. It was difficult at first since sand never stayed where it was placed. The sand she shoveled to the side fell back in, which was the most annoying thing Tane had experienced so far. She had to throw the sand far away, but still the sand beside it would fall in.

Tane would keep digging however. She did feel slightly doubting. What if it was not the place? She had been digging for quite a while now, but nothing seemed to be showing up. Maybe she had to dig more? Or it just was not the spot? The device could have malfunctioned and started beeping at a random time, because she knew human inventions had a tradition of malfunctioning and eventually become useless altogether. It was a fact, humans knew too. Right now, she could not have a malfunctioning piece of metal. It was not going to help if that was the case, at all. She needed help, not the opposite. This was a job in which she was asked to do something she had never done before. If this device was not going to work, she was in trouble. Tane was literally in the middle of nowhere. She would probably need some time to leave this desert. She did have four days worth of energy, though.

Tane kept digging with the hope that she would soon get there and that what she has dug was just the tip of the iceberg. Since the remains were supposed to be extremely old, a lot of sand must have accumulated over them. And if Tane was lucky, the device was actually working, and she just had not reached the layer where the remains. Sure enough, after about another two hours her shovel hit something hard. She made herself a way to climb back up before jumping down to check what she had discovered. It was indeed a piece of animal bone. She placed it on the hard ground next to her before digging into the part where the piece came from. It took a while but she was sure she had found more. Another piece came out. Tane smiled triumphantly. There must have been more than two pieces, at this rate. And so Tane continued digging into the same area.

It was from the same area that all of the pieces Tane found were buried in. She tried digging around that area, but there was nothing more. Of course she had too many pieces she was not even sure if she could carry all of those back to the professor all on her own. Tane checked the device. She should be able to send some sort of signal to the assistant by pushing some buttons and altering some settings. The assistant had told her something about sending signals. He never really told her how to do it because he did not want to waste her time. If only she has asked. Tane was back on the sand dunes with the remains all in one big bag. She pressed the blue button twice, the green button once and tried messing with the settings. It actually worked after about fifteen minutes of fidgeting with the device. The signal was sent and now the assistant would be where she was in no time. She just had to wait.

The assistant arrived in exactly twenty seven minutes. Tane did not get bored in that time. She was studying the remains, hearing the past of the creatures like a storybook read to her. They had a time, a time that was peaceful and nothing like now. Humans did not exist, the world was beautiful. It was all very pleasant to hear, until some loud crashing noises entered the scene, the cries of the creatures' kind got too loud Tane could not keep herself from shutting it off for a while before allowing it to come back to her. They were gone. All the sounds. They were dead. A drop of sadness in liquid form dropped from Tane's left eye. It was just one drop. No more would keep coming. She felt sad for the creatures. She could not tell who or what caused the crashing noises but that must have been the cause of their extinction and their high value in archaeologic research.

Tane handed the bag to the assistant who started to carry it their entire journey. She felt bad for making him do such a thing. She should have carried it herself. He did not seem to have too much strength for a male human. The professor was waiting in his office while calculating something Tane did not know about. They entered together, the assistant with the bag of remains while Tane held the bag of tools. The assistant then took the tool bag from her, leaving abruptly for some reason. The professor came over to in front of his office desk, then examined Tane's find. He seemed dissatisfied at first, but after looking carefully at each and every piece, he seemed pretty pleased. “Thank you for your help,” he told Tane in a rough manly voice while fishing out a pouch of money he had prepared for her. “Goodbye,” he waved. Tane repeated what he said and waved back too, turning and leaving the establishment.
