    Job Info:

The Ancient Ruin, a place said to hold the greatest of all vaults that help treasure! These ruins were said to hold the Lost Saint's vault, a vault created by the original ten Wizard Saints. The Council had made a decree to mages on all sides of the spectrum to partake in helping find the place before a famed, treasure hunting, mage found it first. The Magic Council believed that if he found any powerful artifacts that they would be used misused and cause problems. Whomever succeeded would be given more than just jewels too! Each person in the group would be allowed to take one legendary item from the vault to claim as their own!

With that in mind Aiyana had gotten into contact with her repeated job partner, and best friend, Mao and asked her if she would like to go along with her. To Aiyana's luck, the tailed woman had been up to the task. As they were against mages of a higher caliber, yet again for the two woman, Aiyana had also found Seikatsu and asked if he could help them as well. That one went well also, the taller mage saying he would be there when he was needed.

The young, bandaged, woman was now waiting outside. While alone, she wasn't scared due to her knowledge of two more on the way; not to mention how beautiful it was on the sunny, cloudless, day. It wouldn't be long now before she would hear the footsteps of the two she would be working with again. 'I swear, we should probably find some way of making a multiple guild team. With how often me an Mao work together, not counting the times we have both worked with Sei, we might as well be a team as it is!' She thought excitedly to herself as she started to hear footsteps approaching. 'Well, here's hoping it's one of my friends. I really don't want to have to fight someone, or something, off before we even start on our mission for the Magic Council.'

What laid hidden within the labyrinth? What could the Wizard Saints of old have hidden? For whatever reason Mao dabbled in silly thoughts such as it being their various hobby collections (such as cards or stamps, perhaps other things…). ’Mmm…surely nobody would hide something lewd and deem it “treasure” to try and keep people from it somehow? No, definitely not since treasure would garner much more attention.’ How hilarious it might be though to uncover ye old smut mags! It would certainly shine an interesting light on otherwise legendary figures, but surely powerful men knew how to hide such things far better than in bountiful loot.

Mind wanderings as she traveled aside, the job intrigued the curious mage all the same. The mysteries of what might be stashed away within a labyrinth lured her in almost as much as the reasons behind their actions. Untold riches lay waiting inside for the first person brave and crafty enough to make it – some fellows apparently well on their way to doing so already – and yet surely it was more than some sort of bank?

’If only it weren’t so sunny, but at least I don’t have to walk through nor around the desert.’ Glaring a little from beneath her hood, Mao again thanked the fact their destination lay in the exact opposite direction of Rose Gardens. Traipsing through deserts, even on transit, was unpleasant and left the girl wishing for the cooler climates of her guild hall. ’The labyrinth will surely be cooler though, I wonder what its style might be…’

Trees provided lovely shade as Mao neared the ruins, able to pull back the hood and bask in the already cooler air of the area. Forests gave way to jungle as very rich, green plants replaced the darker spruces and luscious ferns started decorating the landscape in varying degrees of popularity alongside their wide-leafed brethren. It offered her a brilliant visual for further adventure series when characters made mad dashes through such places to pirate ships or for treasure. ’I guess I get to live that a bit.’

Finally spying the building Mao realized one small fact…she didn’t know exactly where they were meeting up here. In fact, she may or may not have unwittingly circled the place due to her minor daze of the lush flora. ’Well…I’m sure they can’t be that hard to find.’

Seikatsu was hanging out around his home tree when he saw a rather small, green haired girl sticking a note to one of the trees. Upon having waited for her to leave the area, Seikatsu jumped down and read the note. Not truly reading, but skimming over it. "Hmmm.... let's see.... ancient ruins... depths hold some treasure... evil guy wants it... probably dangerous as shit... nice to have help... you're a crazy bastard... wanna come along?" Seikatsu muttered, paraphrasing what he skimmed. "Hmmm... Risk my balls by deciding to delve into an area of a ruins barely explored for centuries, that are possible highly unstable, with a bunch of people going through there who'd kill me for the same treasure that I'm looking for, all to get some piece of crap that I'll probably never use...." Seikatsu said under his breath while sitting in a tree. Lisa popped out of the branches and let off a clicking sound. "You got a point there... would gimme a chance to use the interdimensional matter displacement lacrima we got in the war room..." Seikatsu said, honestly considering going on this crazy job. "Hehe, hey Lisa... know what'd be kinda comical?" he asked the wyvern. "Us finding some sort of super or nudie pics of the old saints. There's a legendary item in of itself." Seikatsu joked, Lisa let off a series of clicking sounds that could be on par with some sort of laugh.

Seikatsu sent word back to his green haired... acquaintance, letting her know that he'll be there. On the morning of the day he was to meet Aiyana in an undisclosed location (she never said where)Seikatsu went into his supply closet. Using the table in his home, he set three leather sacks of water in their respective holsters, cut up some dried out food and set it in it's holder, and took a little bit of blast fuse. "Probably shouldn't bring the blast cord buuuut... meh good for fireworks." Seikatsu said, at first thinking the explosive was a bit much. Seikatsu put it all in his backpack, making sure the food was in a container that was sealed air tight so as to not let anything in, and keep the scent out. He walked over to his map table, which was just a spherical lacrima set in the middle of a very ornate mahogany table, and began searching for one of his allies. The lacrima inside the table permitted one to view anything in Fiore, the Earthland version is in the development phase, so long as it was outside. That being said, it can't see who's already in a building, but will show who's going in, perfect for S and R. Seikatsu was able to pinpoint where Aiyana was, and even found Mao who was a bit lost as hell, and decided that he'd set the coordinates to walk with Mao and guide her to Aiyana.

Lisa wrapped around Seikatsu's arm as always and let out a few clicks to let him know she was ready. "Master, are you certain the IMDL is ready to be used? As I recall, the deer we sent through still hasn't appeared..." Seikatsu's maid said in her usual caring voice. Meanwhile -somewhere near the Ancient Ruins, a certain green haired wizard has a dead deer flop down in front her from the sky- Seikatsu walked over to his worried feline maid and patted her head, closing her eyes as he did so. "Now now, kid. The only reason that deer hadn't shown up was because we haven't found it. All the other things we sent through arrived safe and sound... ish." Seikatsu said trying to comfort her. Meanwhile -somewhere in Fiore a pile of rotten fruit are attacking birds with feet coming out their eye-sockets- "Plus, if anything goes wrong I have the escape transporter." Seikatsu said while holding a small cyan rectangular prism. "Now input the coordinates, I wanna be right next to Ms. Nakiri when I hit the other side!" Seikatsu said in an encouraging voice. The can-woman mixed maid input coordinates on a key pad and Seikatsu's Lacrima TV that covered three massive walls of his war room flickered showing a picture of Mao walking along. Seikatsu stepped through, arriving... somewhere that wasn't where Mao was... Seikatsu rested his forehead on his palm saying "You gotta be jesting..." in a disappointed tone. From the scenery he was... somewhere near the Ancient Ruins, so he sent up Lisa to look for Mao and either transport her to where he was, or get her to Aiyana. Either that or just hang with her and act as a surveillance point for him.

Where were they? They should have been here by now! "Did they manage to get lost already? We haven't even made it into the place yet!" Her exclamation was quite loud, echoing into the ruins where "The Gem Brothers" were surely getting an even further lead on them. Pacing impatiently, her feet hitting the ground hard, the young woman was raring to go. She wanted to beat those guys to the vault as see all the precious treasure that was there. 'Oh gods..What if the “treasure" was really just some really lewd images or recordings and it's just a bunker to hide it all?' The thought was quite amusing to have, thinking that the most powerful of mages at the time hiding their smut and calling it “treasure” that had to be hidden to keep it secret. She laughed a bit too loudly at the thought of the treasure hunter gang finding it and there only being lacrima recordings of that kind of material.

As she finished laughing, he head looking up as her eyes opened, she managed to catch a glimpse of something appearing in the sky and falling towards her. Seeing that whatever it was was going to fall really close by her, she took a leap back just in time to see a dead deer plop loudly into the dirt, entrails spilling out onto the ground she had been on but mere moments before. ”What in the name of hell was that all about! How does a deer just fall from the air! Is someone launching animals as ballistic weapons testing nearby?"

It was an off occurrence, even for her, and it was making her even more antsy than before. Her pacing quickened, now nervous that more animals would start falling from the sky to explode around her. 'Hurry up you two...'

Stopped in her tracks, the woman stared at the building. And stared. And stared some more. No matter how she looked at it or for how long the thing looked like a face stuck in an expression of “oh no!” complete with a downturned mouth gaping. Judging by some of the fallen debris it would seem the doorway once stood a lot smaller than current day, but scanning the area around the girl could only determine that…she must be at some sort of back entrance to the labyrinth. Surely if this were the entrance Aiyana would be here, and Seikatsu too? She didn’t know where the man lived so who got here in what order was a bit up in the air for her.

About to move a very familiar clicking sound caught her attention, Mao’s gaze swinging skyward to catch the little wyvern stuck in a nose dive right for her. She stood stock still as the cute little thing continued its path until swerving at the last minute to lap around her before settling on an upper arm like last time. ”Ah, Lisa, it’s been a bit,” she murmured fondly, scratching the cute reptile’s head as it clicked a few times, ”That must mean he’s nearby…I suppose we should look for Aiyana then since she’s the last one lost.” Because obviously it was the Lamia Scale mage who was lost, not a certain crystal-using mage at all.

    Nope.

’I wonder if it stretches underground, or maybe this building merely leads to the labyrinth hidden somewhere else?’Theories and hypotheses flew through Mao’s mind, gazing at the ancient structure even as her mind wandered. ’As large as it is, it doesn’t seem like it’d make for a particularly large labyrinth at…unless, maybe they used spatial magic?’ As tempting as it’d been to merely walk right in from that other entryway, in the end the tailed girl figured it’d be best to find at least one of her partners-in-not-really-crime in case the big bad foe mentioned in the job might be wandering the hallways. The guy sounded like bad news, especially for someone who required more experience such as she. ’Still…he uses Crystal-Make…I could probably learn a few things from him.’

All the same she’d prefer not to run into the man flying solo, though Lisa could prove a daunting ally as well.

As they turned yet another corner of the building Mao blinked, ’Hmm? What the…isn’t that…the face?’ There she stood staring at the same entryway that’d looked like some silly expression. ’It shouldn’t have the same damage on every side though…unless…I might have to meet up with them inside.’ It seemed the place chose the entrance for her, whether Mao liked it or not. Then again, she could always try a second time…but again it kicked her back to the starting point. ’Probably shouldn’t have touched the building…it might be enchanted…’

Seikatsu had finally remembered to use his own wings, and taken to the skies. After a few minutes of flying around, he'd seen an opening in the labyrinth that looked kind of like a smiley face. Upon landing near it, Seikatsu couldn't see Aiyana, and questioned if Lisa found Mao. Seikatsu closed his eyes and began looking through Lisa's. Lisa looked around, and Seikatsu could see that they were in the labyrinth, but he also saw Aiyana wasn't with them. "Three way free for all eh? May as well make the most of it." Seikatsu said in a half mumble, half speech. Entering the large smiley face, Seikatsu felt the ground shudder as the mouth closed. "Well.... not going out through that entrance..." Seikatsu said rather put off by the fact that this place just ate him.

Seikatsu decided to screw it and walked down the only available route he could find. Keeping in mind he had a food twenty feet of blast cord on his back, should he feel the need to 'cheat' in solving the maze he had a very efficient method. Seikatsu continued walking down the dark path, having little to guide him aside from being in his meditative state. Seikatsu could feel the walls emitting magic power, and used that to sense his way around the ruins. He'd seen a light at the end of a long corridor and approached it. "A torch.... still lit... not suspicious at all..." Seikatsu said sarcastically. He picked the torch up, and the ground spun below him. The wall flipped him over to another part of the maze. He put the torch back and the maze sent him back to his original part. "Puzzles.... high tech considering the time they were built..." Seikatsu said, impressed with the level of ingenuity. Seikatsu took the torch again, this time jumping back when the wall started moving. He beat the puzzle, he had the torch, and was on the same section that he started on.

'...Did I get bailed on? Or did the two of them get here early and went on without me?' She was to the point where she was worried if she should just go in and risk finding an enemy before a friend. But what if they were already in and were in trouble? Or they may be at a different entrance? For all she knew they had come from a different direction and assumed that was where they were to meet! With all that on her mind, Aiyana decided that going in would be the most productive.

Heading into the entrance, which looked like an overly surprised face, the young woman felt a chill as she slowly walked through the ruins. No one really knew everything that was in here, just that the vault was what they wanted to find. Keeping one ear listening for footsteps, or other noises, the girl wandered until she heard an odd grinding noise as a piece of the floor sunk underneath her foot.

”Shit!” The single curse was yelled quite loudly as Aiyana realized that she had set off a trap withing the first few minutes of being there. Seeing a wall open up a few meters ahead the girl realize, barely in time, that she needed to move out of the way. Leaping to her right, and ending in a roll that almost had her bash her skull into the wall, she heard a whooshing noise as arrows flew past where she had just been before starting to move. ”That was WAY too close...Can't wait to find the others. I don't like being in here alone.”

Shortly after she said this, she thought she could hear noises in the distance. Unsure as to what it was, the young woman slowed her pace so as to remain silent in comparison. It could have been anything up ahead. Mao, Seikatsu, one of the Gem Brothers, or even another dead deer flopping around in some kind of strange, twisted, magic as a game for some deranged mage.

There was no way around it: Mao had to walk through the “oh no” face – as she’d dubbed it – because the second time trying to go anywhere else turned out just as fruitless as the first. ’If the mark of insanity is doing the same thing time and time again, and expecting different results, I think I’ll just accept this and move on. Besides they might’ve entered by now. Hmm…I hope they’re not too mad.’ Accompanied by none other than Lisa herself, Mao pondered if the other two found each other before setting foot inside the odd temple and its inner labyrinthine setup. With any luck she’d find the pair soon, but for now she flew quasi-solo.

Things took a turn for the dark pretty fast without artificial light, and Mao almost broke out one of her emeralds if only to provide some artificial light with their soft, green glow if not for the cave slowly providing a light show for her. Whether reacting to her presence or merely walking deep enough, the walls began emitting a soft, pale blue sheen to them, the sight rather breathtaking in its otherworldly quality. ’It’s like being surrounded by glow worms.’ Touching the wall, she received a pleasant surprised and smiled at the crystalline formations, ’A surprising ally in these dark times, eh?’

A few minutes passed in more or less silence, Mao and Lisa traveling in companionable silence until Mao paused, squinting slightly, ’Looks like it widens up ahead, or leads into a room?’ Cautiously she treaded further, almost entering the room if not for the sudden gunfire that chipped some of the glowing rock off near the entrance.

”Ah shit, swears I saw something move! God damn it, these blasted glow rocks are startin’ to make me crazy!” a voice out of sight exclaimed, and she heard another bullet hit the rock as if for good measure. ”Better be some good gold and things in that vault or this job hell as sure ain’t worth it. Damn that Harper, stationing me in this dump.”

Damn, only so far in and already trouble brewing. Luckily between the soft lighting and potentially the guy graduating from the Storm Trooper School of Shooting, Mao might’ve hit a spot of luck. Now it’d be a matter of playing the situation right…

Seikatsu continued down the seemingly endless passage way, marveling at the level of ingenuity it would take to form the walls of this massive place. Either a grand amount of technology, or a grand wiz- oh right... ten wizard saints. Seikatsu had entirely forgotten that the ten wizard saints even existed, as they served no purpose in his eyes. 'So... the ten glorified wand wavers made this place? Or was it just one of them?' Seikatsu asked, making sure not to say anything out loud. Out of nowhere, as if granted a gift from hell itself, Seikatsu's torch went out. 'Lovely.' Seikatsu said sarcastically, acknowledging that his situation became moderately worse. A set of foot steps was heard in the distance, along with some men talking. Seikatsu immediately went around a corner, and listened in. "I'm tellin' yah, Yo goggles are misfunctionin'. Ain't no-one no how 'round that corner!" a man said, probably to his partner. "Und I'm tellin' you I saw someone!" Another man said.

'Well... my partners are woman, unless they decided to change gender on me... other wise I'd say I'm screwed.' Seikatsu thought to himself. Seikatsu decided that he would have to find a clever way to fight them in the dark, obviously they had some sort of devices that allowed them to see in the dark so he was at a massive disadvantage. All of a sudden, as if a gift from the heavens, the walls began glowing blue. Seikatsu heard the men complaining that they couldn't see and Seikatsu sprang out at them. One of the men had his gun pointed at Seikatsu, but he was squinting so hard from the sudden light change that his shots missed. Still having the smouldering torch in his hand, Seikatsu stuffed it in the mouth of one of the two men. The man let off a scream, and Seikatsu shoved it in further. The other man finally got out of the shock phase, and into the combat ready mode as he finally took off the goggles. Seikatsu figured the other would be down for a while dealing with that burning feeling in his mouth. Seikatsu sent a flash to Lisa, 'I ran into some trouble on my end, protect Mao if she asks you to.' he ordered as he got ready to engage his enemy.

It wasn't long after she slowed down that the place's lights had gone out, leaving her in the dark for a brief time before the walls lit up with a pale blue glow. Not that the light would have made too much of a difference, her bandages allowing sight if she actually used them for such a purpose. The blue light was soothing to her, but apparently not soothing to person that she had heard earlier.

”Hey! Who turned out the lights! How c'n I shoot something if I only get this damned pale light!”

'Well, lucky for me that whomever this isn't good in this dim light.'

With that thought, the young woman crept around until her foot hit a loose stone. It barely made too much noise, just rolling a bit with a few bumping noises, but it was enough to set off the semi-blind gunman who was apparently nervous in the dim light. The firing of a gun echoed twice as two bullets flew into the wall where the rock had stopped rolling, sparks flying in the dim light as it happened.

”Who's out there! Ya better turn 'round now, before you get hurt!”

It was obvious he was just going off of the sound, the way he had shot at the stone being proof of that, so the bandaged mage made an on the fly plan. Silently picking up another of the rocks near her feet, grabbing one about the size of a piece of hard candy, she threw it as hard as she could in the other direction as the guy with the gun. The resounding crack of the rock starting to bounce off the floor in that area set off the gunman, bullets going off in a sad attempt at shooting a person that wasn't even there. Using this to her advantage the young woman ran up to where the man was, his back facing toward her as she drew her weapon before swinging the weapon down at an angle. The swing brought the blunt part of the weapon across the side of the man's knee, the sound of bones breaking and a scream of agony being accompanied by another few rounds of gunfire.

”Ah! Yer gonna regret this ye are!” As he yelled this, he tried to roll himself over after falling to the ground, but hard kick to his ribs kept him down as tried to do so, this shot he planned to aim at her instead going off into the distance.

Time would have to be their primary ally with this jittery fellow. As she felt the little wyvern’s body coil up, preparing to race out Mao patted her lightly on the head and whispered, ”Shh, not yet…we’ll use something a little different.” As appreciated as the wyvern’s motives were, Mao didn’t want to just chuck her into danger when they could use something a little less precious than a life. Not that she particularly liked the idea of tossing out a memory and hoping the man didn’t try to destroy it, but given the greed of these people a gem might be something well worth tossing into their possession, even if only briefly.

Besides as much as she enjoyed the memory of breakfast and traveling here, such could be but a small sacrifice. It wasn’t nearly as important as meeting someone or any of the many books she’d plowed through.

Grumblings echoed around them as the cave bounced sound around, the bunny-eared girl careful in her movements as she peeked around the corner. Somewhere something else clacked, a bit of rock falling from the ceiling no doubt, but it spooked him all the same as the man in the long coat twirled about with a pistol at the ready. ’This could get unpleasant…but no time like the present.’ Through the air the little gem sailed, landing not far from the man’s feet as it bounced a few small skips and stopped. The gun trained on it in the blink of an eye, although the reality of what laid at his feet froze the man in his tracks.

”What…? An emerald? Holy shit, lucky day! Those bastards ain’t getting a lick of it either, this baby’s all mine!” he cheered, mood massively improved as he bent over to pick up the prize. Enraptured as he was, the man never expected the double-gauntlet punch to the rear end, nor the impact of his head to the glow rock wall. ”D’a…fuuu?” his dazed and pained voice called out as he tried to get to his feet and flopped about instead. Mao kicked away the pistol, pleased to at least remove one weapon from his vicinity, even if she couldn’t yet say what else lay beneath his worn leather coat.

Seikatsu spun around and knocked the barrel of the man's thompson away, him letting off a few bullets that would have surely hit Seikatsu if he hadn't done what he did. Seikatsu drew his Thorn of Betrayal as the man began recentering his tommy gun. The barrel was about to be lined up with Seikatsu's arm when it got caught on the hook of Seikatsu's sword. The other man still trying to get the burning torch out of his throat, he was of little use and would likely pass out soon. Seikatsu struggled with knocking the man off balance, and the man who's gun was locked with Seikatsu's blade had an equally difficult time throwing Seikatsu off. "You know the worse part about guns?" Seikatsu asked the man with a grin on his face. "What's-at?" the man replied. Seikatsu shoulder bumped the man and sent him backwards, immediately drawing his Heart of War and using the superior weapon to cleave the thompson in half. The barrel and part of the firing chamber hit the floor, and the man who was holding the stock and trigger looks baffled. "The thing's useless without a firing pin." Seikatsu said as the firing pin fell out from the stock of the gun. The man panicked for a second and tried to charge Seikatsu, tripping over his own feet. "Not very good at hand to hand... are you?" Seikatsu said, looking down at the man. Seikatsu walked over and pressed the tip of his Thorn of Betrayal to the man's neck. "Find peace in the netherworld..." he said grimly before plunging the blade all the way through.

Seikatsu turned to the man who had passed out from suffocation, and was simply laying on the floor. Knowing the man would die soon, Seikatsu couldn't stand the idea of someone dying slowly. He kneeled over the man and pressed the dagger and of his Thorn of Betrayal to the man's throat. "Fall by the hands of a traitor. You may take your dignity with you." Seikatsu said in a tranquil voice and he cut the man's throat open. 'Lisa, I don't want to take chances and worry about these guys coming back. If Mao doesn't slit their throats, you do it for her.' Seikatsu ordered Lisa using their telepathic connection. Seikatsu continued walking down the gently lit pathway, leaving the two men to bleed out.

Not waiting for the man to be able to compose himself, Aiyana kicked the down man again. This one his his other leg, making him scream in pain as he reached into the inside of his jacket. What he produced looked similar to a six-shooter, but the barrel of the gun was unique. Not wanting to find out what it would feel like to get shot in her lifetime, the young woman dove to the side. The blast sounded like an explosion as the flak shot erupted from the mini-cannon the man had pulled on her. At that range she doubted she would have lived through the shot, or had anything left of her to even see if she existed. The weapon must have been a one shot wonder, though, for the man tossed it to the side as he rolled to try and get himself back up.

She had no clue how many weapons this guy had hidden inside that jacket, and she did NOT want to find out the hard way. As the man was busy trying to right himself, she flicked her wrist out and hit the man across his eyes with a bandage whip.

"Ah! Me Eyes! I can't see a thing now!"

He yelled this as he reached into his coat for another one of his guns, pulling out what looked like a small pistol while spinning around to try and use his ears to find her. Some kind of noise could be heard off in the distance, the man turning quickly to shoot at it. In the process the broken leg gave out, the poor soul falling as he did so. In a strange twist of events, the gun hit the ground with it facing towards his face as it went off. Aiyana was lucky to be far enough away to avoid any kind of spatter, but it was still a pretty sickening scene to be at accidentally.

After the shock wore off of seeing it happen, the young woman began walking to try and find somewhere where the three that were doing the job could actually meet.

Opportunity was everything and the man’s greed already provided her a quick advantage. The head injury caused the world to swirl before his very eyes, shaking hands struggling to reach into his jacket for another pistol even as wobbling legs refused to regain their footing any time soon. Another good sock to the head had the man twirling like a newbie ballerina before flopping to the ground without any proper form beyond that of roadkill. He lived, even if the man might be cursing life for the serious headache he’d suffer for the rest of the day.

It’d been her plan to tie the man up and summarily disarm him, but it would seem that her little reptilian sidekick didn’t share the same sentiments. One moment her back was turned as she fetched some rope from her satchel, the next moment the retrieved object hit the soft dirt with a barely audible noise as Mao surveyed the damage. Blood gurgled in the man’s throat, jugular torn open by the jaws of the creature once laced around the woman’s arm. She’d stricken with the distinct purpose to cause this man’s death, and at this time there was nothing Mao could do but let it happen.

The very act left her speechless, mind blank as the final vestiges of life left the stranger while the wyvern nonchalantly cleaned herself of the evidence. Cutting his throat or even taking his life entirely never crossed the woman’s mind. For some reason it never existed as a “possibility” until this moment that such might be “better” or even “necessary.” It’d been an invisible option, one she ignored because on some level she never wanted to acknowledge it. ’It’s so natural in the animal world, but it feels so different when it’s a creature not too far from one’s self. Is it merely because I have no plans to eat them? Or because I want to live my life, and just assume everyone else wants to as well?’

What should she do now? It left the girl in a confused state even after Lisa returned to the perch around her arm, chittering at her as if prompting the woman to move on, to do anything else but stand there staring at the corpse. It didn’t feel right to merely leave the victim however, Mao pulling out a few matches from her pocket and ripping some pages from a notebook. ’I don’t know if anything wanders down here for food…so, if nothing else, it’d probably be best not to leave a ripe corpse to rot down here.’ Lighting him aflame, Mao didn’t stick around for it to turn into a blazing and glorious sight, eager to escape before the scent of sizzling skin became a permanent resident in her nasal cavities.

Seikatsu was watching as Lisa took out the poor man without a moment's hesitation. 'Didn't think she'd do it so quickly...' Seikatsu thought, remembering how caring Lisa always acted towards him. 'Then again, I did tell her to do it...' Seikatsu realized. Lisa was always obedient right down to the last detail. She'd do anything so long as Seikatsu asked her to, and this was what made Seikatsu worry. She seemed to be able to tell the difference between her master and the other thing Seikatsu could only describe as 'it' even though he knew that 'it' was simply a heightened level of darkness in himself. Seikatsu walked down the single path that twisted and turned, and seemed to be going nowhere at all, until he came across a fork in the road. Down one path, he heard a single voice complaining about how he hit a dead end. 'That's convenient...' Seikatsu thought to himself. Seikatsu hid behind the wall to the other path so as to have the element of surprise.

The man walked in front Seikatsu and looked around, trying to remember which way he came from. He wasn't wearing one of those night vision helmets, and didn't have a massive gun in his arms. Not being able to see his weapon, Seikatsu had no idea what he had hidden under that coat of his. "Damn tha' goldey. Sendin' me out to find the vault, ain't knowin' what ways up, n' alone." the man said angrily. 'Alone' was the magic word for Seikatsu. Seikatsu sprung out of the shadows and slashed the back of the man's legs with his Heart of War in one hand, Thorn of Betrayal in the other. The man fell to the ground screaming, and spun around on his knees while pulling something out of his jacket. Seikatsu saw the barrel of a massive six shooter, bigger than a .44 magnum. Seikatsu used is sword to smack his hand as he pulled the trigger, the shot grazing the side of Seikatsu's face. Seikatsu quickly jumped over him before he had time to pull the hammer back and waited for him to turn. As the man's hand can into view, Seikatsu used his Heart of War to cut the man's hand off.

As the young woman proceeded to walk down that same hallway, twists and turns throughout, the girl couldn't stop seeing the mental image of what had just happened. It was the first time she had actually seen someone die in front of her; all the other deaths she could remember being that of animals or monsters. Not only that, it had been from a gun. Blood, brain, and gore. What a disgusting mess! Shaking her head quickly while squinting her eyes shut, in a failed attempt to forget the sight, the woman almost bumped a shoulder into the wall. Startling herself with this, she smacked out at the wall with the back of her hand.

”Ow!” The wall was in no way soft enough for a hand to be hitting, but the sting of it was almost forgotten as the pale blue lights suddenly began to flicker at a rapid pace. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, if it was a color it was changing to it. All that was missing were people, drinks, and drugs. With those the place would have made a great rave! The rapid colors continued on as she made her way down the hall, the previous thoughts being forgotten as the colors were all she focused on.

It wasn't long before Aiyana came across a large room, with three other paths that linked to it. 'Surely the others will come across this place too,' the bandaged mage thought hopefully to herself. There were sounds lightly echoing from all around, making it impossible to tell what they were or which hallway they originated from. The echoes made it a little spooky, the young woman shivering as a chill went down her spine. Alone in an ancient ruin, with enemies possibly in every direction waiting for someone to fight if they saw them. She really wanted the others to show up at this location, for her own selfish reasons. She never really enjoyed being alone, even if she did go on some jobs alone.

It wasn't long before she started pacing, worrying about her friends. Were they okay wandering around? Had the treasure hunters found them too? What if they managed to kill one of them? She would never be able to live with herself! She would remain in this intersection, pacing, until one or all of the group found her.

Eventually the smell left her, Mao alone with the scaly companion nuzzling her arm. She couldn’t decide whether it was some form of comfort or request for forgiveness since she’d been a bit still since the death of the man – and subsequently less head pats or scratching. It weighed on her mind, though she continued to view it with a strange, clinical nature as the vision replayed a few times in her mind. ’This is not the time to consider such matters,’ she grimly decided, pushing the event to the back of her mind. Taking life wouldn’t be something she’d start willy-nilly, the act holding an almost forbidden feeling to it, or at least one that should be performed with great weight upon it.

Deciding such matters when other dangerous foes lurked potentially around every corner certainly was the wrong time for it however.

If Lisa insisted on taking them out, then Mao decided she ultimately wouldn’t stop her right now, undecided as she was since it’d harm their overall team dynamics. Fighting each other would serve little purpose other than to help this Harper fellow and his cronies mucking about. ”If it is your style,” she murmured, finally lightly petting the wyvern on the head, much to her delight, ”then I will not stop you. However I will not aid you beyond disabling them. I do not think I am fit to judge whether someone lives or dies as you can.” Perhaps it was some sort of animal instinct? Kill or be killed…

’If it was entirely her will.’

Though the ghostly light remained it’d darkened a slight bit before returning to that pale, sky blue hue she’d enjoyed earlier. ’Are they perhaps related to emotions or thoughts?’ When she came across the others she might inquire if they’d traversed through similar caverns or if they’d gone through different structures entirely. She wouldn’t be surprised if the multiple entrances possessed different paths until some point, as surely they’d all converge.

Beyond her point the lights started flashing, a shadowy figure pacing back and forth that initially caused Mao to hunch down and hide. Some mumblings and grumblings of worry came out, and that wouldn’t have been enough to pull Mao from her spot if not for the voice and at one point the woman throwing her hands up as if frustrated by something.

”Aiyana? There you are…I’d been worried that you and Seikatsu might be lost somewhere.”

The man with his arm cut off had gone into a flurry of screams and shouts of pain. Seikatsu found a type of sadistic pleasure in making people scream like this, and even more enjoyment when it was out of terror. Seikatsu grabbed the man by the throat and haled him to a wall, slamming him against it. He walked back and grabbed the man's six shooter, and decided to play a little game. "Tell me outsider, what is your name?" Seikatsu asked in a slow, menacing voice. "B-b-Bobby, m' name's Bobby!" the terrified man asked. Seikatsu opened the cylinder on the gun, and looked at it. The five remaining bullets were massive, all labeled '50 action express' and seemed like they were all hollowpoint. Seikatsu flicked the chamber closed and lined the bullets with the chamber. "How about you and I play... a small game?" Seikatsu said, his eyes turning black. "wh-what sortsa' game?" the scared man asked. "A simple one... I'll give you five chances, to answer three questions. If all three aren't answered, well... let's leave that to imagination." Seikatsu said in a soft, creepy tone.

Seikatsu pointed the gun at the man's head, "Question one, what's your bosses name?" Seikatsu asked with a large smile on his face. "I... I don't know." the man said, obviously lying. Seikatsu fired a shot and hit the man's arm. The round was so powerful it blasted through to the other side, and made a hole in the wall. "I-i-i- I mean, I mean his name's Harpa'! Harpa' Golshrina'!" the man squealed from the pain, knowing the next shot would be closer to the center. "Good." Seikatsu fired a shot a few feet above his head, making the man flinch. "What method does he use to attack?" Seikatsu asked in his soft, eery voice. "No one knows, we ain- GAHAAAAA!!!" the man screamed as the bullet plowed through his lung on the opposite side from the first shot. "Wrong answer." Seikatsu said in a terrifyingly calm voice. "CRYSTAL MAKE!!! He make stuff with crystals!!!" the man shouted. Seikatsu put a fourth bullet in the wall, a little bit under the one he fired after the second question. "How many of you goons are there?" he asked. "I seriously don't know that one!" the man shouted. Seikatsu sensed the honesty and was about to shoot him dead out of mercy and heard voices through the wall. Seikatsu put a final shot in the wall, making the man feel relieved that he got to live.

Seikatsu walked over to the man and pulled a few inches of blast cord, tying a fuse to each piece, and tied the other end of the fuse linking it to another piece of blast cord. "Stand up." Seikatsu said to the man. The man hesitantly stood up, and Seikatsu forced him to turned him around and attached the three pieces to his back. Seikatsu began patting the man down, to make it feel like a frisk instead of a set up. Seikatsu sipped the fourth piece of blast cord in the man's pants pocket and shoved him against the wall, using a match to light the fuze before taking a set of steps back. "So... can I go no-" the man was cut off by the massive explosion that sent him through the wall bit by bloody bit. "Sure, by all means..." Seikatsu said with a smile, looking at the hole. Seikatsu stepped through the rubble and saw his allies, he waved to them "Salutations!" he said cheerily. Lisa jumped off of Mao and clung to Seikatsu, taking her rightful place on his shoulder, Seikatsu began rubbing her head while seeming oblivious to the blood and organs all over the walls of the new found room.

She was getting frustrated, REAL frustrated. Surely they were here in the ruins by now, they HAD to be. She had started grumbling to herself about how even her best friend still hadn't shown up as the young woman threw her hands into the air as a sign of giving up. It was shortly after that that the scares started.

The first one wasn't as bad, only making her feel like she was having a heart attack. Out of no where, someone started talking to her. "OH MY GOD!" As she yelled, she brandished her black and gold Khopesh, turning towards the sound, and found Mao standing there. Eyes wide in surprise, the bandaged mage quickly put her weapon away before talking. "God Mao! You almost gave me a heart attack!" With that said the girl went in for a hug, something she needed at the moment with how things had been. Hopefully the other girl didn't mind the surprise.

As she was hugging her best friend, however, was when the second surprise happened. A sudden explosion filled their ears, the bandaged mage hugging Mao even tighter at the loud noises. After opening her eyes, and looking up, there stood Seikatsu. The man was COVERED in gore and blood, and did not seem to care in the slightest about it as he greeted the two woman he was now grouped up with. "Dammit Seikatsu! As if me screaming wasn't enough, why not wake whatever was sleeping for miles around!" Almost as if her saying that was a cue for an entrance, footsteps could be heard coming from the fourth passage, the one the three of them had not come through or explored.

”Well, here comes company. Let's hope some of those steps are echoes and not a group." The girl wasn't happy with the amount of sound the footsteps made, the echoes making it impossible to count how many individual feet were involved in making them.

’I should’ve announced my presence a little more,’ she realized too late, oddly shaped weapon brandished at her. Eyes widened slightly, not having expected the action even if in retrospect it made perfect sense, and then they returned to their widened stance when the girl threw her hands around Mao. ’Oh yeah, sometimes people hug each other.’ It was an odd realization following the previous scene to follow it up with this. As happy as she was to see Aiyana, the notion of perhaps securing her arms around the girl never came, and shortly it didn’t matter as the explosion caused a well-timed distraction. Mao winced as the hold tightened, but she readied herself to arm her hands with the clawed gauntlets until a familiar man walked through and greeted them quite casually.

Never mind the bits of human painting his exterior.

The little wyvern left Mao immediately to reunite with her proper owner, leaving the Sabertooth mage feeling a tad lonely. She’d enjoyed the travel buddy if nothing else, ripping out of throats or not. However…a certain someone could really use a bath, the unpleasant smell of human entrails intermixed with the scent of burning death fell far from the deliciousness of cooking proper meat over any fire. Almost strange how the two circumstances could be so different, leaving the girl wondering if it’d be the same with an animal exploding, or a human being properly prepared for grilling. Then she shook the thoughts away as footsteps calmly made their way towards the trio.

’Guess we won’t be alone for long. I hope Aiyana’s not verbally cursing us with a difficult bout.’ Surely with the three together they’d be fine though.

    Somewhere deeper in the labyrinth…

”Huh?” The man turned his head, cursing under his breath, ”Worthless fodder…” He spat out the cigarette that’d come to the end of its life, mashed further into the dirt ground by his leather boot. A gloved hand adjusted his cowboy hat as he turned about, grumbling further about being close to his goal and how hard it was to find good help these days. Braided red hair bobbed against his back until his pace slowed, the anger leaving as he neared the source of the explosion and his mood inevitably calmed. ’No need ta get worked up, I knew they were worthless when I hired ‘em. ‘Sides probably nuthin’ but a few guild rats poking about. I’ll skin ‘em alive n’ then get that treasure.’

”Well, well, well, what do we got here?” a sultry voice rang out before the man came into site, hands sitting on his hips, ”A few vermin lookin’ fer treasure with the big leagues eh? Don’t ‘spose I could interest y’all in leavin’ now, before I have to smash a few holes in those bodies…”

Seikatsu's eyes instantly went from their dull, dead purple looking selves, to a pair of absolute voids. The black in his eyes signaling that he was no longer Seikatsu, Chief of the Tribe of Souls. No, this was Seikatsu... Demon. The walls shook, sending small bits of rubble with every word Seikatsu spoke. His voice was split into several chords, one feminine, but the rest male. "You know..." Seikatsu said, ignoring the walls motions. "I was actually about to waste my time on plastering the fuzzy one... but you're cocky enough to over-ride that will for a new fur coat..." Seikatsu added, directing the 'fuzzy one' comment towards Mao. Lisa immediately flew away from Seikatsu and clung to Mao's shoulder in case 'it' wasn't satisfied with tall dark and fugly.

Seikatsu slowly drew the Heart of War from it's sheathe, the metallic sound echoing throughout the room. "Com och hyalp mig..." Seikatsu said in his multi-chord voice, the walls still shaking slightly. Seikatsu burst forth with amazing speed, catching the large man off guard, but not long enough. Seikatsu was hit and impaled with a pillar of crystal that went through his shoulder, right under the collar bone, and came out the other side. Seikatsu smiled, revealing a pair of extremely sharp fangs that were never there before, his black eyes focusing in on his target. Seikatsu put more force into his strength, causing his cloak and robe top to explode into black, white, and tan pieces of confetti reveals that Seikatsu's scars were different. The scars covering his back, arms, and face were all giving off a thick black mist, and glowing crimson. Seikatsu grabbed the crystal pillar with his free hand and crushed it using sheer strength and will, the shards of crystal causing his hand to bleed. Seikatsu slammed the sword inside the large man, and jumped back with part of the crystal pillar still in him. "Alstoba." Seikatsu finished his chant.

The heart of war exploded while stuck inside the man, opening the wound even greater. The sword became a cloud of black metallic dust that condensed next to Seikatsu. A woman wearing purple robes, with red laces, a bow, long flowing white hair and a pair of horns on her head appeared."My my... it seems you've awakened him..." Altsoba said in a rather sexy voice while looking at Goldshriner, "... You won't make it out of this alive, I hope you know that." she added on knowing full well that no one escapes a demon's wrath. Seikatsu pushed the crystal through himself, not even wincing from pain, and got ready to engage the man head on. Lisa went ahead and let out a high pitched roar, a set of black snake looking things flew out the ground and entered Seikatsu, causing his wounds to close and hand to cease its bleeding.

Well, it had definitely just been the echoes making it sound like a herd. Of course, the lightweight woman was pretty sure the group would have had a better chance against a herd of lackeys instead of Harper Goldenshrine himself! The cocky man threatened them to try and get them to flee, tail between Mao's legs, but Seikatsu was the first to react to it. The walls shook as he spoke, the man obviously in that 'dark place' she had been warned to avoid if he ever went to. Sadly there was no where for her to run when they were here, the place being too much of a maze to just scatter and run about. As Seikatsu began to trade blows with the man, Aiyana snapped her fingers to bring Memory out of her shadow.

"All right Memory, bring out the Zombie Brute. That will give him something else to worry about." Within seconds, a bright glow on the ground would bring forth the behemoth that she had fought inside the church she had been at when investigating the zombification curse. With the beast on the field, they at least had the numerical advantage for the time being. That was as long as they all stayed standing, that is.

The beast roared before circling around the mage, moving to the opposing side from the group and leaving the strong mage in the middle of four. The brute went in for a strike, almost getting smashed by a crystal anvil that suddenly dropped down in front it it. It dodged the attack just in time by jumping forward only to be struck, though not a complete hit, by a spread of crystal arrows. The zombie howled in rage as it retreated, Aiyana attacking the opponent whose back was now turned to her.

Her blow with the blunt part of the khopesh knocked the man forward, although not disabling him in the slightest. As he rolled forward, the young woman didn't see the crystal orb that was suddenly pegging her in the chest. She flew back a few feet, falling to the ground as her breath left her for a moment. She lay there trying to catch her breath, praying to the gods her heart didn't give out as she try to recover from the hit to the center of her chest.

As disconcerting as the remark about a fur coat was, faced with the notorious enemy Mao couldn’t afford to pay much mind. For now she’d merely chalk it up to his overzealous demonic side since those types didn’t seem too friendly, or at least without their “witty” remarks towards comrades. As disturbing as the man’s actions might’ve been to most folk, just like the comment Mao brushed it off to be a later concern. If he could function just fine with such a hole – even as Lisa caused some sort of suture ability to take over – then they could all deal with the patchwork later. They proceeded to crowd around him alongside a giant, summoned zombie that decided to almost mindlessly rampage, offering Mao some slight cover in the background.

’Steady…’ she chanted internally, the crystalline arrow notched before flying through the air. The grinning man dodged it too readily, some level of cockiness returning despite some of the more annoying blows he’d just received.

”Sorry darlin’,” he teased, firing a volley of similar arrows her way, ”but it’s gonna take more than that to take down a Crystal usin’ master such as myself. Come back when you can fire at least ten!” They cut a few hairs on her tail and nicked at her clothes and skin, but for the most part the distance saved the slippery mage this round as she dove for her female friend. He laughed as they fell behind a large boulder, ”Don’t you think it’s a bad time for a make out session honey?”

He heard it a split second too late as the bomb quickly crystallized, Mao wasting no time in activating the trigger of the spell. Crystal master he may be, but if she could stay a step ahead of him then this might be possible with…well less injuries than the starting stages seemed to suggest.

It went off before he could muster a proper defense beyond crossed arms in front of him, face turned down as he grunted in pain from the spray of ruby-tastic shards. Pulling away from Ai – and leaving the bow behind the boulder where it’d be best protected for now – Mao dashed around, armed now with her favored gauntlets. Another spray of arrows, but she dodged in a red light that caused the man to flinch from the sight in preparation of another explosion. Around the shield she went, the thing useless in his false predictions of her crystal usage.

”HA!” she called out reflexively, delivering a solid blow to the face that forced a small spray of spit. Her fists continued to fly, another punch aimed at his gut and two at his chest, each blow punching in some of the shards he'd failed to wipe away further into their wounds. It was the attempted uppercut that he finally recovered somewhat, enough to create a diamond hard fist to send her reeling backwards and finally regain his personal bubble.

”You…BITCH! I’LL SHOW YOU THAT CRYSTAL-MAKE IS BETTER THAN WHATEVER PANSY SHIT YER USIN’!”
