    Job Description:

Akeya once again found herself in Era, and once again she was here because she had to help the authorities. In fact, she was once again helping the ones who had the duty of enforcing the law. Seeing all this coincidence it was actually somewhat weird that the group of law enforces was different. Last time she had been asked to help the town guards captured an escaped criminal, although honestly that hadn't been that much of a job. After all, as soon as she found the convict he had allowed her to take him in, although he had first demanded that he was allowed to see whether his family was doing all right with him, and Akeya didn't really have a reason to refuse that request.

This time the job was a bit different. Previous time the mages had been asked to help out because the guards were overworked and busy making sure no other prisoner could plan an escape, so it was understandable that they would like to have some help. However this time it seemed a mage had been asked to help because the new recruits were being hopeless and they hoped an experienced mage could help them learn something the veterans couldn't. The Rune Knights always needed more people helping out, but this time they had picked up a group of people who weren't as useful as they had hoped. Some of them just were extremely inexperienced and could be beaten into shape with some work, but others apparently possessed an ego tall enough to dwarf the building in which the Magic Council resided. Why the Rune Knights themselves couldn't fix that was another question Akeya had in her mind as she headed for the training grounds. Maybe they didn't want to give the other recruits the idea that they'd be beaten to a pulp for the slightest error.

The group that she was supposed to train was already waiting, and making it quite clear why they needed training. Most of them were just sitting or lying around, talking with each other and not even noticing her approach. The few who did notice that the half dragon was coming their way didn't seem to care much, giving her dismissive glances before returning to their friends. The winged ninja normally didn't care much about whether people paid her attention or not, seeing how not being seen makes most jobs easier, but she was supposed to train these guys. She had to make sure that they also would listen to what she had to say, rather than fool around.

Suddenly Shadow Stepping forward Akeya appeared behind one of the more noisy recruits, a dark knife pressed against his throat and his hands held behind his back so he couldn't reach for his weapons. While her target was too shocked to immediately react some of the others yelled and cursed as they tried to get upright and grab their weapons, only for them to falter once Akeya directed her glare at them.

"You're too easily caught. If an assassin was present in this town they could have eliminated all of you before the first body dropped. Pay attention to your surroundings next time."

Letting go off the recruit Akeya Shadow Stepped again, this time appearing at a bit of a distance from the ones who were now both very surprised and annoyed at this female suddenly interrupting their fun. Not that Akeya cared about their fun. She was here to do her job.

"As you've undoubtedly been told I'm here to instruct you, seeing how the other Rune Knights have trouble keeping you in line. The first lesson of the day is that as the ones who have the duty to protect the people you have to be a bit more careful than lying around chatting with your friends."

One of the recruits spat on the ground at that, taking a step forward and looking at Akeya with disdain.

"What, we're supposed to learn something from a damn lizard? We're Rune Knights! We already passed the exam. If you don't act a bit more careful you could find that being able to catch us by surprise won't help you."

Akeya stared at the man for a couple of seconds before sighing and Shadow Stepping once again, this time reappearing right in front of the man. Grabbing his throat with one hand she threw him upwards, once he fell down on the ground planting her foot against his head and applying a fair amount of pressure.

"The second lesson is that you shouldn't underestimate your enemy. You humans are always very prideful, but don't forget that there are many dangerous creatures, and not all of them look dangerous at first sight. Also, as I just demonstrated, not all magic is flashy. No doubt our example here believes that as long as it is big and noisy it does the job, but while you're busy creating a fireball I could already have slit your throat. Magic can do a lot of things, and the most efficient path is most often one that doesn't attract too much attention."

The other Rune Knights mumbled a bit in shock while Akeya's victim groaned, only for the half dragon to pull him upright and push him back amongst the others.

"Now we're going to train, and I expect you to take it seriously. Passing the tests doesn't mean you're invincible. It means the Rune Knights believe you have the potential to protect the people."
