Suddenly the black clad mages head was spinning. The transition had been instantaneous. One second, he had been in the Court of the Void guest of Chaos, and now he was standing in a dark room.

Before even addressing the room, Markus found himself thinking over the events that had lead him here. Just how much of his live had Chaos had a part in. How much had they watched, and recorded? Who were the other ‘children’? Were they human like him? All of these and a hundred more questions coursed through the chaos mages head. It was infuriating, and calming. He discovered all in one sitting that he was not alone, but also that he was watched, and judged.

Markus, for the first time in years, almost broke down then and there. As a man who prided himself in total control of his emotions, reliving the worst parts of his life had been a trial he had not expected. All of which after spending an unknown amount of time in an insane labyrinth. In the end, the mage had to close his eyes and focus on breathing, meditation, regaining control. He first had to find a way out of this mess.

He knew there was nothing he could do about his questions currently, so he had to address his situation. He knew now, Chaos would be watching, judging, deciding his fate. As such, he turned to the new location he had been transferred to.

The room he found himself in was roughly circular and completely barren. About thirty meters in diameter, it was dark and made of the same rock Markus had traveled through when he first found himself in this realm. Looking about, he could find no entrances, no exits, no hidden doors. The walls made smooth transitions into both the ceiling and floor, and the rock was worn smooth as if sanded.

In the end Markus found a circle, lightly carved in the rock, in the center of the room. It was just large enough to stand in, and maybe large enough to sit. After some time, having ran out of ideas, the mage sat in the circle and crossed his legs.

Laughter, joyous and sincere, yet venomous and dangerous, rang out in Markus’ head. The laughter belonged to a female and was beautiful. “I wondered how long it would take you. I swear, men are always the worst trying to brute force their way through a problem.” Markus’ eyes opened finally, and he saw standing in front of him a female figure. She was instantly familiar, and entirely alien to the chaos mage. "Still, you did better than many."

The first word Markus could use to describe the woman was scary, and the second was beautiful. Standing a little taller than Markus, if he was not sitting on the ground, she looked down on him. Her eyes were black with no whites and held the same glow Markus had seem in his magic. Dressed in pure black armor, with a blowing black skirt her pure white hair stood out sharply. Markus noticed the tips were colored a blood red, far richer than Markus’ own hair, and the face looking at him was far paler than even his skill.

She held a dark smile, the kind of smile which Markus would assume a cat would have when looking at a mouse, or a child demon might have when finding a new mortal toy. “You couldn’t even save your brother…. But lets begin.”

For a brief second, Markus was totally stunned, and entirely enraged. The chaos mage had not thought of that night in years and had left that life long ago. The day William died had been the worst day in Markus’ brief history before meeting chaos. That very day the chaos mage learned the power of fire, and that very night his own father had struck a ten year old Markus with his sword. The mage still had the wound on his back.

Standing chaotic energy coursed through the mage. “Ha, you dare try your might against me?” The female shook her head, almost in pity, the entire time she had a grin plasterd upon her face. “Your emotions make you weak, your fear is a liability. How will you ever protect those you dare come to care for.” Suddenly, the female launched at Markus, her hands coursing with chaotic magic. The altercation, while brief, was intense and grueling.

Markus struck towards the female, who merely sidestepped the attack and brought her fist strait into the chaos mages core. Markus coughed blood, knowing he had never moved so slow in his life. With a fluid movement, the female left his range of attack and smiled again. “I mean, come on. Even those who try and befriend you end up regretting their decisions.”

Once more Markus attacked, and once more he ended up being struck. The female kept a smile upon her face the entire time, as if enjoying watching the mortal before her squirm. As if she only let him live because she fancied it. With a swift kick her knee came crashing into Markus’ stomach, causing him to double over in pain.

“Hell, you couldn’t even bag the girl. What was her name again?...” The woman seemed to contemplate. “Ah, whatever, that entire affair was nothing better than a distraction and annoyance... A Fantasy. We both know she is safer, now that you are out of her life… Don’t we?” Collapsing to the ground Markus was on his hands and knees, looking upon her boots.

“Chaos’ newest Progeny…. What a joke.” The woman started to walk away, and something clicked within the Markus' mind. As if a switch had been turned, as if for some reason, he no longer cared. His very whim, his very essence surged him back to his feet. The woman, having stopped and turned to him sneered. “You are not powerful enough to control that Avatar.”

Markus could feel dark magic streaming from his body, one looking at him would see his hair, longer than it had been when Markus first found himself in the maze, was blowing as if in an invisible wind. Yet, the power seemed… incomplete, and Markus was laboring to take as much as a single breath.

“The Avatar of Chaos, very few progenies ever even learn of this gift…” the woman watched him with mild interest. “Should you not gain control of your emotions, it will kill you.” She said simply. “Then, you would have been useless to Chaos, and her anger might just reach to this ‘guild’ you call home.”

Markus could feel himself loosing control. His mind was warped, surrounded by chaos. Immersed in grief. Flooded by… emotions the chaos mage had kept bottled for years. It was almost as if every feeling that had once been numbed by chaos’ magic was flooding the mage all at once.

Markus could feel his fear of fire, his hatred of superiority, the thrill of his first time, the pain, the loneliness. All at once the mage was assaulted by visions, images, thoughts, emotions… The cave was shaking, rocks were tumbling through the air, the chaos mage felt as if he was going to be ripped apart.

Then… he felt someone enter his mind.

Markus could hear a void, soft, unbias, calm, controlled. Everything Markus wish he could do, everything Markus thought he was. “I can help you out here, Markus, just this once.”… The voice spoke in his mind.

Markus was lost in his memories, reliving the night he had lost his brother. Markus was in a ‘shed’ on the grounds of his families estate. His, room, they called it. It was pretty much the only place the young chaos mage ever was, locked away as a shame to his family, no magic, no love. It was far enough from the main house that no guest would stumble upon it, but close enough for the guards and his family to keep a watch.

Markus was always alone. Born in the nation of Bellem without magic to a prestigious family meant Markus was nothing but a shameful ‘disease’, his lot in life was to always be provided for, or… if he was lucky some family would ‘purchase’ him for service. The young boy had had one such meeting earlier that day, and was still dressed in a tight ‘suit’, an attire the boy had grown to hate. Unfortunately he was turned down, once more shaming his family.  So here he was, passing the time. At least this time, he was not alone.

The boy with Markus was no older than 12, and was smiling. Fire magic dancing in his hands. He was not allowed to practice Magic without their tutors, and he was not supposed to be here. Yet still he snuck into Markus’ room in order to provide comfort to his younger brother, in order to provide a small light in the darkness. William was showing his new moves, a difficult fire of purple coloration. Markus was informed that the fire can not be put out, but can only die out over time. He was putting on a show for the 9 year old Markus. Both  boys were laughing, joyous and free.

At least, until the fire clipped the roof of the shack.

Again the chaos mage heard the voice, and he realized then that he knew the speaker, yet he could not possibly understand how this was happening, his mind could not wrap around she was here. Markus could make out her speaking to whatever it was that held his mind. Suddenly, the memory Markus was experiencing had passed, and he once more heard her speak. Markus, still lost in chaos, smiled. He was not alone.

However, the effect which held him was not done. In the distance, Markus could make out the pale female speaking once more. “Well, that certainly was… interesting. Who would have known that Dreamland would cross into Chaos in such a way.” The female stepped close to Markus, and cocked her head to her side. “I’ll give you one thing, you sure are lucky.”

She watched passively as the cave around her started to collapse, the chaos mage was loosing this battle. Even with the aid from that dreamland walker. She was not surprised that his power had seeped into other realms. The mage was in a time of transition, and being tested as a true Avatar. The girl smiled slightly, perhaps this mage would be worth her time after all, only a few ever reached this state.

Sighing she thought of what must be done. Chaos was an enigmatic force, and in order to control such a power the mage would have to learn to let go. Until he could do such a thing so much would be out of his reach. Suddenly, the woman changed, the red in her hair cleared, and the black eyes became pure white. The cruel smile she once had turned to one of compassion. If he could learn to take control of the chaos then that night might just continue. However, until such a time he would only put her in danger.

Markus suddenly was thrown in a new memory. This time the chaos mage was laying on a bed, looking upwards at a wooden ceiling above him. The mage was trying to figure out how to handle the situation he found himself in. This time however, the memory was warped. The emotions that were suppressed were suddenly released. The chaos mage felt warm, accepted, trusted. With a glance down at his chest he could see the white haired girl sleeping. His dark eyes lightened, and he smiled a smile she would never see. He had never trusted sleeping with someone so close, even if he had actually ‘slept’ with the person. The chaos mage had always been one to leave in the night, never before had the slept till the morning after. This time, his eyes closes as he drifted once more.

“You need to let go Progeny... You are still dying. Until you gain control, you ‘must’ let go.” The voice belonged to the woman. Somehow, she sounded different... caring. Markus suddenly opened his eyes and found himself looking at her feet, he finally understood what was needed for chaos. The pain ended, with a sign Markus felt the chaotic force leave his system taking all remaining magic from his reserve.

“Good…” The woman reached down and grabbed the chaos mages chin, lifting his eyes to meet her. “You might just be worthy after all. When I am done, you will have nothing left to hold onto.” The woman let go as Markus collapsed, just before passing out he heard her speak once more.

“Oh yeah, the names Aporia, Sixth Seal of the Apocalypse, and Chaos Incarnate.”
