    Meeting the gang [Open]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux on 30th May 2018, 3:09 pm

Nessa excitedly paced in the direction of the Fairy Tail Guild, she was so excited, she could barely contain herself from skipping. She had got the news that she was approved to join the guild and was on her way to get branded. She had hurriedly burst out of her door this morning, then reeled herself in so as the not embarrass herself. Didn't want anyone spotting her acting like a loon on the way to the guild.

Not to mention the fact that she might already be recognised for her entire family standing on the steps this morning, cheering her on as she left. They were so embarrassing, but she loved them. Her Dad, Aunty and cousin, stood waving so vigorously at her, people must have thought they had a swarm of bees attacking them. But at least she had managed to convince them to let her go alone, she had practically begged her father to stay at home. She was nineteen for goodness sake, she didn't need her Dad showing up like a Papa dropping of his baby to a creche.

Just to let out a little bit of her happiness, she hummed a little tune, hoping it would make the journey to the guild only that bit faster. It was finally going to change, finally she could be a part of something. She had been dreaming about this for as long as she could remember. Finally she could help people, just like her mum did. Just you wait world, I'm gonna be Fairy Tails next hero! She thought, grinning like a cheshire cat.

Finally she spotted the guildhall in the distance, and sped up the pace a little. Within moments she was standing infront of the doors, heart pounding. This is it. The door that had looked so welcoming from afar, sudden looked very ominous. Nessa reached out but stopped just short of the wood, hesitation momentarily getting the better of her.

"Come on girl, you can do this..." She muttered under her breath, before placnig her palms on the door and pushing it open. She stepped inside and glanced around, nerves rippling through her as she made her way in.

"Umm... hello?" She called out, unsure of what to do next.

Althea was sprawled out carelessly across the steps that she usually could be found on -- ones that led to the guild hall’s second floor.  And for once, she wasn’t there just to kill time.  In fact, at that time she hadn’t really had time to return back to Magnolia in between her jobs, not like she disliked the slightly hectic schedule. But one instance in particular she had went to a foreign nation and then had to travel to another the next day.  It was a time scrunch the wizard didn’t necessarily enjoy all too much due to the fact she had to take one of her worst nightmares there overnight: a train.  And in the end, she needed to ask someone to knock her unconscious to get there due to her nearly constant hurling.  Just thinking of the rocking vehicle caused bile to gather at the back of her throat.

Not wishing to vomit all of her breakfast, Althea solved it by practically chugging the juice box sitting next her.  Emptying it out, she attempted to skillfully throw it into a nearby trashcan like a basketball player.  But, it bounced off the rim of the bin, forcing her to do that awkward thing where you have to walk over to the can and then put your litter in manually.  Deciding to just get more juice while she was up, Althea walked right up to the bartender, sliding into one of the bar’s stools.  “Can I have-”  But before she even finished her sentence, they already placed her precious juice box in front of her.  She must have ordered the same thing so many times over and over again that the bartender already knew that she was going to request for a box of juice.  Without hesitation, the layer got out of her seat nearly as quickly as she had gotten into it, sticking the plastic straw through the designated spot.

But in the corner of her gaze, the blonde spotted the guild’s grand doors open, a stranger stepping into the hall.  Curious, Althea tried to guess who they could be.  She tried not to spend all of her time loitering around Fairy Tail, but she did so often enough to be relatively familiar with all those working at the guild.  But this one didn’t strike her as being one she had seen before, and since no one immediately approached her the water mage took the initiative to.  “Hey, how’s it hanging?” She said, not thinking to ask a for something such as her name or what she was doing in the office.  “I’m Althea, but Thea’s alright too, nice to meet you!”

There was a brief moment when Nessa thought she was going to be ignored, that wouldn't be a good start. How would she fit in if she couldn't talk to anybody. Would she have to spend her time at the guild with no friends? That just wouldn't do. She could just imagnie having to go home and tell her family. She shook her head, she was being paranoid, if no one approached her she would just have to approach them. No matter how scary they looked.

Before she could approach anyone, she noticed a petit blond girl making her way over to her. The girl was pretty and looked pleasant enough. After hearing the girls greeting, she immediately felt her nerves settle, they weren't completely gone, but rather they relaxed to a dull roar at least. Being approached by someone so friendly and welcoming would settle anyone's nerves. It looked like she would be fine after all. Nessa gave her a friendly smile and made a little wave gesture with her hand as she replied,

"Hi, I'm good thank you," Her tone came off more confident than she felt, but that was something her aunty had always taught her. Even if you're crumbling, stand tall She would say. Her aunty always came across as confident and bubbly, she was an intimidating woman, but respected by many. So of course Nessa listened to her,

"Umm, my names Nessa, I'm looking to be new member here. I don't suppose you could help me, I was told to come in today to get my guild mark." Even if the girl couldn't brand her, she would at least know someone that could right? She was only really aware of what the guild master looked like. So she wasn't sure who else to approach herself.

STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK YOUR BONES, BUT YOU'VE GOT NO CHANCE AGAINST WORDS.

The letter mage grimaced as she slowly made her way into the guild hall building. It had been a tiring job, taking care of the rampaging kitsune. Even with the help of Lilium Santiais in exorcising whatever corruptive being resided within the wretched creature, holding mental control over so powerful an entity had taken a lot out of her. Throughout the journey home, Hoshi, the tabby exceed that currently fluttered nervously around her at the moment had fussed over her state enough already, and in a way, it only served to further Sorano’s exhaustion. All she wanted now was to have a nice warm shower and to collapse in her bed. After all, even someone who possessed no emotions too could relish the relaxation of a bodily cleansing and good night’s beauty rest.

However, upon entering the guild hall, it seemed that it would not be the case. Pushing over the ancient wooden doors with a heavy sigh, the teenager would be met with the sight of Althea, juice box in hand (already the guild vault was groaning with the cost of all those crates of juice boxes – the guild master was starting to regret giving the girl a prize of unlimited free drinks), as well as an unfamiliar aura. While there were often clients that stopped by to seek out a mage for some particular task, mages themselves rarely came in unless they were looking for work – in other words, looking to join the guild. It also meant that there would be a while to wait before Sorano would be able to get that relaxing warm shower, for work always came first.

A small sigh escape the girl’s mouth, and she moved over to where Althea and the stranger were chatting. Looking to be around Rina’s age, the woman looked fairly confident, though her aura betrayed her nervous excitement at being in the guild. Definitely an emotion the letter mage had not sensed within the confines of guild territories in a while – this one likely did not know about Fairy Tail’s darker side yet. They’d have to treat her gently for now. “Hello, Miss Althea, and hello to you as well.” Dipping her head courteously to the newcomer and guildmate alike, her exceed companion would offer a small wave as well. “Is this someone looking to join the guild?”

Nessa's wish quickly came true as she was approached by none other than the guild master herself. Nessa didn't know many of the Fairy Tail guild members, but of course, she had heard of it's guild master. Having seen her in passing, she had only ever looked on at her in awe before, never having actually greeted her. Nessa always found herself enamoured by strong powerful women, it was inspiring to her and part of the reason she had chosen Fairy Tail. It made her believe that one day, she too could become a strong powerful wizard in the magical community. It took every fibre of her being to contain herself as she was greeted by Sorano Granon. She nodded vigorously at her question, before trying to compose herself as she spoke.

"Yes Miss, I am, my name is Nessa Cordelia Lux. And I want more than anything to join this guild, so I'm here to ask how I go about doing that."
She told her guild master, keeping her tone polite, and as calm as she could barely manage. She just hoped the guild master would see her as a worthy candidate for the guild. She had been training so hard to prove herself, and she was sure her magic would at least prove somewhat useful. Particularly in battle. It was rare that she would present her full name but the history of her family wasn't as well known in these parts. Maybe Sorano wouldn't recognise her surname, or maybe if she did she would be on the side of those who thought her maybe was brave for choosing to be a healer in a dark guard. Only her mother could see the good in people who hearts so black. Some loved her for that, some hated her. But more than anything, she was acknowledged for laying down her life for the people of the village. Nessa couldn't hide even that part of herself, not here, not if she wanted to be truly accepted.

"You see I practice Starlight maiden magic, it's mainly an offensive form of elemental magic that's manifested from the power of the stars. I also have several years of combat training under my belt." She began explaining her verbal resume to Sorano, hoping it would help convince her that she was worthy of being a Fairy Tail Wizard.

Althea grinned, obviously excited to see a new member of Fairy Tail.  “Okay Nessa, nice to meet you!”  She said, taking a quick sip of her 10/10 juice.  Of course, she didn’t really give her any briefing, not because she forgot but because she didn’t think it was important.  She herself didn’t have too much explained to her when she first joined the guild and this Nessa character would probably have a similar case. “And about your guildmark…”  The blonde proceeded to briefly scan the scene for one of the few in the guild who could give out the mark.  And conveniently, a certain mage just happened to come in around that very moment.  “Hiya Sorano!  Hoshi~!”  She said to the mage and her exceed.

But as soon as Sorano came by, Nessa’s nervousness became apparent enough for Althea, who was as dense as a brick, to pick it up.  And the lengthy introduction she offered to Fairy Tail’s guild master gave off a real sense of professionality that caused Althea to wonder if she did things like this often or simply practiced in front of a mirror or something.  If she were to summarize her magic on the spot, the mage would simply say “water-y punching and stuff” then leave it there, open for all sorts of interpretation.  She herself didn’t really know too much about it, nor was she too interested in finding out at the moment.  For the time being, doing jobs and drinking juice had been her main focuses as a wizard until she got a reason to do something else.

“Your magic sounds pretty nifty to me!”  Althea exclaimed, crossing her arms and nodding to further support her overall conclusion of “nifty”.  “Maybe we can even go on a job or two later?” She asked.  Personally, the slayer rarely planned to go on jobs with people, usually just happening to run across them when she got there.  It wasn’t due to being antisocial or anything along those lines, but the water mage simply tended to forget the people at Fairy Tail were mages, not a bunch of typical white collar workers, although it was difficult to separate them at times.  Several always had this drained look and the slayer couldn’t help but wonder if Nessa would turn out like one of them.

STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK YOUR BONES, BUT YOU'VE GOT NO CHANCE AGAINST WORDS.

Honestly, although Sorano knew that after attaining Wizard Saint status her fame had risen up to rather unbelievable levels, she had yet to see its effect often in real life. A large number of her jobs took the letter mage away from more civilized areas, and as a result, people were less prone to recognize her and her status. Even in Magnolia, the citizens all knew her fairly well and were accustomed to her presence. Only the occasional tourist would pause to gawk at the teenager every once in a while, when Sorano finally found time to take a walk or grab some food outside the guild. Paperwork filled up a mind-boggling amount of her job as guild master, unlike what one might imagine. It wasn’t always the awe-inspiring feats that non-mages expected.

So, when Nessa’s entire emotional state shifted at the letter mage’s arrival, her posture stiffening and head bobbing quickly to Sorano’s words, the letter mage momentarily paused in faint surprise. However, Althea’s bright greeting brought her attention to the energetic girl, returning her greeting politely. Although they were both of the same age, the mages’ demeanors were drastically different – Sorano’s cold lack of emotion in contrast with Althea’s constant energy and cheerful personality could easily be seen in their interaction. Remaining true to nature, the guild master would turn back to the newcomer, watching as her head bent down in a sudden bow, introducing herself in a way that portrayed almost uncharacteristic formality. Unfortunately, while Nessa may have skillfully attempted to shield her emotions, the letter mage’s auric gaze easily picked out the swirling anxiety beneath her calm mask, analyzing the girl casually.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Lux.” It was a name that rang a familiar bell to her, but not one that caused Sorano to drastically change her opinion on the figure. Associations were important in political situations, but at the moment, the guild had no need to forge any connections. They were steady enough in their independent path, and the alliance with Black Rose had eased the Council’s tensions a bit.

Unlike some prior hopeful members, this one was particularly zealous in her introduction, explaining her abilities fervently to the guild master. It certainly showed dedication, and the guild master would quickly hold up a finger. “Wait a second while I get some materials.”

Leaving to pick up some writing utensils and the guild stamp from the desk, Sorano would return to find Nessa already conversing with Althea. That was good – although Fairy Tail was made up of mercenaries, connections between members were always welcome. “Alright, Miss Lux. The process is probably simpler than you think. This guild is but a workplace and creator of connections for independent mercenaries, so getting in requires only a simple interview. Please explain to me verbally in as many or few words as you wish, what your purpose is for joining, and whether you would ever cause harm to members or guild property in any form without explicit permission.” The second question might seem awfully obvious, but very necessary for reasons that would be seen later.

As the guild master excused herself, Nessa felt her nerves settling somewhat. So far so good. Although the guild master was a little hard to read, she hadn't sent her packing yet. Nessa beamed at Althea's compliment about her magic being nifty. "Thank you, that's what I was hoping," She replied. Upon Althea mentioning the prospect of going on a job together, Nessa lit up. "Really? That sounds amazing, I would love to! I'm completely new to this, but I'll do my best!" She said eagerly to the cheery blond mage, if Althea was already talking about going on jobs, that meant her likelihood of acceptance was increasing. She had already made the conscious acknowledge that she liked Althea. The girl had made her feel immediately welcome, Nessa was glad she had bumped into her first as she had put her mind at ease somewhat.

As Sorano returned, she had with her various writing utensils, Nessa's eyes were drawn to them. Was there some sort of essay? She wondered. Then hearing Sorano explanation of the initiation process, she felt relief. It seemed much simpler than she had expected. An interview, no fighting and elaborate displays of magic. I can do this She thought, before opening her mouth to answer Sorano's question.

"I just want to help people, I'm finally strong enough so I can potentially make a different to the lives of others with my magic, and I figured joining a guild would be the best way to do that. Easing the suffering of others brings me great joy I guess. I've seen what Fairy Tail had done to make people happy, and I want to be a part of that,"  She explained honestly. How else could she put it, she just wanted to make people happy. Just like her mum did.

"As for causing harm to other members or damaging property, I wouldn't dream of it. I want to be friends with everyone in the guild, and I would never betray my friends. I don't like hurting people as it is," She informedly the guild master sincerely. Nessa couldn't understand what would ever prompt her to harm a guildmate in the first place, it just seemed improbable to her. She had come to terms that she would have to fight people at some point, but they were bad people who brought pain and suffering to others. In her mind, her guild mates would not fall under that category.

Returning to the guild after a long trip too Minstrel in order to acquire a certain item for a certain girl, Haru was always hanging around the guild; especially in the morning. His house was only a short walk away from the guild now. Living on his own, well; with his Exceed as well had been thrilling so far. He could make a mess anywhere he wanted! All he had to do was pay rent!

Being an official mage paid well; so his bank account was nearing the 100 thousands now and he was very proud of that fact; but all he used it for was to pay rent in order to make a mess in his house. It was glorious. Arriving at the guild now, his nose wiggled as he knew Althea was in the room. She seemed to be over across the way talking to his guildmaster. Smiling a bit, as he made his way around and eventually somehow got a hold of come coffee.

"Wonder what they're on about..." as he tuned in his superhuman hearing, spying on the ladies he heard a new voice in conversation but didn't pay it much mind. Until he recognized it. The girl from moving day! He'd met her when he was still outside of his new house in Magnolia with the U-Haul and all. Who knew he'd see her again so soon, and at his own guild to boot. Breathing a small flame in a puff onto his cup of coffee it got too hot to hold for a normal human as the mug actually began to steam as well as the coffee.

"She's going to be a mage here?!" he said loud enough for those nearby to hear him. His prideful nature got the better of him as he took on an ashamed look briefly holding his coffee as he would take a huge gulp of the piping hot drink before setting it down hoping no one touched it or they'd be in for a hell of a burn. Crossing over to the ladies in question; he would step up, taller than all of them with his hands in his pockets; black scarf going down his back quite a ways as he would nod at them.

Not interrupting but waiting for some silence rather.

"Don't you worry, damaging property is my thing. I do enough of that for all of us." he said in his usual serious tone, although it clearly was a jest or joke meant to make her feel at ease. "Besides, Sorano can be scary as hell when she's mad...I don't recommend going down that road." and that was just to f with her. An earnest look of love and brotherhood passed him as he smiled a rare smile and nodded at Sorano. Over the last year, even through their rocky start to their relationship; they'd not only grown closer but developed mutual respect for one another as well. "Althea is just scary in general." he said nodding upward and grinning at the water mage to his left. Hands still in his pockets. "You're going to be great here...but that guild mark is famous; I hope you're ready to surpass your limits." he nodded to her. "It's good to see you again by the way...I'm all moved in but...it's a friggin' mess...I need help organizing it." he talked about his new house as if he needed a woman's touch, a sweatdrop passing over his head comically anime style as he said this.

STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK YOUR BONES, BUT YOU'VE GOT NO CHANCE AGAINST WORDS.

Listening to Nessa’s responses, she nodded slowly. Although her aura continued to be shaky with nerves, her emotions didn’t display any sign of the typical guilt and awkwardness that came with lying. It was likely that Nessa truly was just your typical legal-oriented mage looking to make a place for herself in the industry. Although it was unlikely that the girl would ever truly fit in with the core of Fairy Tail with her current mindset, it wasn’t going to cause any huge problems for the guild itself. She nodded quietly, placing a period at the end of her final sentence, then looked up as Haru’s familiar voice came into earshot. Being an often-seen presence around the guild, Sorano had eventually gotten used to the older teen’s antics. While their personalities (or rather, Sorano’s lack of one) often clashed, as well as their morals and priorities, he was still a guild member and someone the letter mage had to put up with.

Greeting him with a polite nod, she listened through his chatter, hoping to be able to just get the process over with quickly. After the previous awkward interactions with Haru, she’d rather avoid any other opportunities for conflict. Perhaps it wasn’t the greatest idea as a good guild master, but such a tactic was certainly the most logical for a character as the emotionless youth. “Good luck with the move, feel free to ask if you need any particular help.” Contributing the bare minimum of polite conversation, Sorano pulled the stamp from her side, revealing the old block of unidentifiable material.

The question of stamp location would be posed to the woman, and the stamp would be applied to her leg where indicated. Sorano traced a circle of runes around the edge of the object, watching as a magic circle lit up below the familiar shape that had held a place in Fiore all these years. When applied, an odd tingling sensation would shoot through Nessa’s body, allowing her access to some of Fairy Tail’s resources. An outline would be left behind on her skin, marking the girl as an intern member of the mercenary guild. Unfortunately, it was impractical to trust someone like Nessa with full access to the guild, illegal supplies and all. However, the blobs of light that shimmered around would transform into small fairies, fluttering around and helping the guild operate smoothly at the reception desk and even sometimes carrying lighter meals and drinks to customers at the bar.

    “Welcome to the guild, Nessa.”

Nessa's attention was drawn by a familiar voice, a recently familiar voice. She glanced away from the face of the guild master. It was Haru, a great portion of her nerves were replaced by the sight of him. She had recently been out for a stroll when she had bumped into him dealing with movers. They had exchanged pleasantries and become acquainted. It had been another one of the reasons she had chosen this guild.

"Oh, hey again!" She said with a warm smile, it was nice to see a familiar face. She laughed at his flyaway remarks but as she glanced back at the mages surrounding her. She couldn't help but acknowledge that he wasn't lying, they were powerful and that made them scary in a way. If she had been exposed to her Aunt's power for so long, she might have been more intimidated. Thankfully, she was used to powerful women, and that was helping a great deal at present. "Aww I'm glad to hear that, " She replied to his comment about his move.

Nessa watched, eyes wide and eager as the guild master pulled out a stamping device of sorts. This was it, She thought, nerves replaced by relief. When Sorano asked where she wanted the guildmark, she flushed slightly. She had lost a bet to her aunty, original she wanted it on her arm. But her Aunty Ann wanted it somewhere... interesting. So she had challenged her to a game of poker, one whom Nessa after years of playing against her Dad had assumed she would be good at. She lost, badly. Her Aunty had wiped the floor with her, and so she looked away as she pointed to her left thigh. What she hadn't realised until later was that was the same place her mother had branded her guildmark.

The sensation travelling through her leg into her body was a difficult one to describe. Similar but different to the sensation of her own magic when it moved through her. Only this was much more complex, an ancient spell. As the magic settled, she immediately felt different, more confident. It was bizarre and exciting at the same time. Then returning her gaze to the others, she beamed with happiness, her honesty reflect in her next words.

"Thank you so much, you won't regret this."

    Ajaflaja, really gross and late post, sorry ;-;
Althea just kind of focused on enjoying her juice from that point forward, watching Sorano give Nessa her guild mark with only mild interest.  It wasn’t that she wasn’t stocked to have another guild mate, it’s just that juice took priority.  I mean, it’s juice, what can a girl do?  But she couldn’t help but wonder how come she herself hadn’t been asked such questions upon joining the guild.  Maybe Fairy Tail was just being more cautious nowadays.  All Althea did was say she wanted to join, then she got her mark and went on a job.  But for a while she was present in the conversation until drifting off into her own thoughts because juice.  That is until Haru entered the scene and disrupted Althea’s good juice vibes.

It was news to her that Haru wasn’t already living in Magnolia, but then it occurred to her that she didn’t really either.  Unless you count the roof of Fairy Tail’s guild hall as a residence.  And as Althea watched him simply leave behind his steaming cup she couldn’t help but wonder why no one seemed the least bit concerned about it.  Could that damage the wood?  Or did this just happen all the time and Althea never bothered to notice?  But once again her attention was diverted when Sorano returned after a quick trip, finally giving Nessa her guild mark.

Althea beamed, actually having listened to what the person in front of her was saying.  “Hopefully not, but maybe!”  She said in a cheerful tone that contrasted her pessimistic words.
