MUD! Of course it had to be MUD! What else could it have been? Large grassy fields? A thick forest? Even a string of shale would have been better then this. Kaia grumbled angrily as she trudged her boots through the thick liquid. After losing her chasers in a cave system, Kaia finally found a way out. Only to be met with a muddy path that lead all the way down the mountain... It was either this or falling to her death. And given her most recent epxeirences, that didn't sound like a very bad idea anymore... How long at it been anyways? A week? Maybe two? Kaia couldn't remember. The last few days were haze, and her internal calendar had all but left the girl behind. All she knew what that some sort of fire magic resonated inside her now, but she had no idea how to use it. It seemed to have a mind of its own however, as when Kaia felt really pissed off, that's when it showed itself. If only there was way she could use it without getting angry. Ugh, the situation she had put herself in.

3 miserable hours later, she finally reached the end of the trail. The mountains behind her, and long green plains in front. Kaia took little notice though, as her mind was far more concerned about getting the mud off her boots. She grumbled and cursed herself as she shook them clean of rocks and dirt, before finding a rock and placing them back on again. After that, she had a little break. Her mind mulling ver the previous events. She had no idea where she was going, and her food store was running out. All she had on her person was a small leather bag, filled with fruit, nuts, and anything else she could scavenge. However, according to her sources there was a small town just east of her location. If she were to walk straight for a day or two, she'd surly find it. With that, Kaia gave an annoyed sigh, and began the long trek across the endless fields.

SUnset came sooner then expected, and Kaia was forced to take a breather. Luckily, she had stumbled across a small grove of trees she could use to set up camp. After many failed attempts to start a fire, the anger quickly boiled up inside the red haired girl, and then a spark appereared from her palm. Just small enough to ingite the wood. Stupid fire magic. Had to only work when she got annoyed. Soon, the moon began its long climb towards the sky, and Kaia fell into a deep sleep. Wrapped tightly in a blanket next to her fire.

"CHOOM!" The ground shook, and the trees rustled for a moment... But then silence. "BOOM!" The sound was heard again, although it sounded closer. The girl shifted in her sleep, and slowly opened an eye. She could see birds far above her fleeing their homes in terror of what seemed like an imminent threat. Kaia payed little attention, and attempted to fall back asleep again. "KOOM!" Alright, something was wrong. ANd it was disturbing Kaia's sleep. Something that made her pissed. "There better be a DAMN good reason why someon-..." She stopped mid sentence as a huge shadow fell over her. The girl stared silently. Her jaw wide open, and her eyes to match... Coming straight towards her... A giant. Fucking. Turtle. It was HUGE! It was like as big as a city. Kaia trembled in fear for a moment, before taking a few steps back. The monster's head seemed to be faceing a certain direction, and cared little for the girl. Assuming it didn't even see her. "Huh..." Was the only word that could escape Kaia's mouth as she tried to process what her brain was telling her she was seeing. Not only was it a giant turtle, but said turtle had something on it's back. For the distance she was at it seemed like buildings. However, Kaia wasted no time to speculate, before she quickly turned around and began sprinting as fast as she could. Each step the giant monster took could be felt rumbling on the ground, and seemed Kaia was gaining little distance as the creature's legs lumbered closer. That's when something else was spotted overhead.

With a quick "WHOOSH" like sound effect, a winged metal object flew right above Kaia and hovered several feet in the direction she was running. The side opened up to reveal a small group of men wearing odd armour. Kaia's eyes widened even more and she screeched to a halt. However, before she could find another escape route, she felt a hot buzz hit her neck, and her body went stiff. She fell to the ground, not being able to move a muscle. Could this be them? Had MANA finally caught her? After weeks of running had she finally been captured? No answers would come for her now though, as her mind faded into a deep sleep... The thooming sound of the beast faded with it.

BY THE EDGE OF MY BLADE, AND THE TIP OF MY BULLET I WILL PROTECT THOSE I LOVE... EVEN IF I HAVE TO PROTECT THEM FROM MYSELF.
Sitting in her office overlooking Sanctuary, Lexa was calmly reviewing paperwork regarding the inner workings of her city. There had been two cases of police aggression against civilians, three cases of the demons beginning to destabilize, and someone a failed attempt at terrorism this quarter... the second one was something Lexa couldn't do anything about, and the face that the terrorist's bomber was sent hellbound before it got within a mile of the city was good enough for Lexa. However... the police aggression was something Lexa couldn't, wouldn't stand for. A small fair skinned finger pressed a little black button with the label 'SDF' under it. "This is L. I want you to bring me those fuckers from the report. I want their asses in my office in three minutes, in anti-magic cuffs, along with the civilians they hit." "Sir they're currently-" "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK GET THEM HERE NOW!" "Y-yes sir, r-right away."

Lexa's eyebrow twitched with annoyance as she spun her chair to look at the lacrima vision, holding a lacrima plate and pressing a picture that would replay the feed from the camera. She watched the civilians pointing fingers and screaming at the two Sanctuary Defense Force members about the fact that they weren't violating any rules. Reviewing the report from the officers the man and his woman were both crossing the street when the cross sign said not to, and that they had assaulted the officers first. Something caught Lexa's eye as a twitch occurred in the feed, a quick moment that seemed like someone had cut the feed and removed the part where something happened, and it had cut to the officers arresting them with seemingly no violence. However, the hospital report showed several baton markings on the civilian's flanks. Lexa pressed another button that was a direct line to the hospital saying "This is L. I want a high density scan on the hands of that couple that got beat." "I'm sorry sir but patient information-" "If I don't have that scan in my office within an hour I'll be trialing you for obstruction of justice." Lexa interrupted he woman with an annoyed tone. "This was for a case? Had you mentioned that my response would be different, I'm putting the order in now." "Thank you." "Sir, you seem on edge. It's probably not my place but may I ask what's wrong?" -sigh- "Just stress, sorry for being snappy with you." "I understand sir, perhaps you should take a break?" "I wish I could, but I can't." "I see, please try to take things easy then. This city won't be the same if you were to collapse suddenly." "Thanks. L-out." "Sir we've got a situation here..." a male voice called in from one of Lexa's demons that were deployed in the lead VTOL unit. "FUCKING HELL WHAT IS IT NOW!?" she replied with a thoroughly annoyed tone. "We've got Harmony K-O'd in some tree." "Harmony's sitting at her desk just outside my office." "Well this one looks a shit ton like her." ".... Capture, do not kill. Moderate force authorized, do not injure her."

    -Several Hours Later-

The girl was brought into Lexa's office with anti-magic braces keeping her locked to the gurney she was rolled in on. "How're her vitals?" Lexa asked while watching the nurses slide her to the middle of the large office. "Normal. Her vitals appear humanesque. There's not enough synthetic components to suggest she's part of the black project, but there are some variations in her genetic code to suggest she was altered to an extent." "I see, do we have any information on her?" "None ma'am. It'd be safe to assume she was part of a black project, but one different in nature to your own." "Right. Thank you, that will be all." Lexa said while taking a pair of black braces and putting them on her wrists. "You're going to wake her? Should I call for a firing squad just in case?" "No thank you, she's locked in tight with no magic. Plus if she breaks free I can take her." "Very well, I'll get back to the research center then." The scientist and her nurses all exited the room.

Lexa held her hand over the girl and sent a small spark of electricity that would force her to awaken. That kind of dream where you're falling in nothing but darkness and wake up suddenly... The girl would see Lexa with her two fox ears, one giving a small twitch as she stared at the girl inquisitively. "Sup." Lexa would say calmly. Lexa looking no older than twelve, her voice matching was normally something that either made people feel superior to her, or it made them want to hug her for days. How this one would react was up in the air, but considering as she was still fastened to the metal surface with antimagic cuffs, Lexa wasn't anticipating a friendly response. "You've been in a medically induced coma for around 24 hours. Your current location is a mobile city atop a giant Tortoise, and your current situation is if you attack me I'll dismember you before you can blink." Lexa said before pressing a button on the metal table, causing the antimagic cuffs to release her. "Play nice and I'll be your friend, harm those under my protection and you'll die. Those are the rules of this city." Lexa said grimly while looking at her with blue, shimmering eyes.

A girl looking exactly like the one Lexa just released walked in with a bowl of red lolipops and set them down on the table next to her before pulling up a chair and taking a seat. "A scan of your taste buds suggested you were partial to sweets. Cherry is my favorite flavor so I chose those, but there's some strawberry mixed in." Harmony said calmly. "I've taken the liberty to take some of your blood among run various other tests on you. By the way, you're welcome. The doctors wanted to do a spinal tap but I told them not to." Lexa said while leaning against her desk with her arms crossed. The windows in the room were all closed, shutters blocking any view of the outside world and the room only being lit by a combination of lacrima and light bulbs. "Name's Grimoire, the one who looks like your twin can introduce herself." "Harmony."

What was this throbbing? It hurt. Nothingness was all Kaia could make out as her body felt as if it was falling, but then a sudden sensation could be felt on her nose. It was quick, and it stinged. Suddenly, light slowly began to return to the world. Kaia's vision began to fade in and out, and she started to make out shapes. Her hearing was jumbled though, and all she could hear was the throbbing sound of her heart, and the small pants she took. Something was keeping her from moving but she couldn't tell until finally everything was clear. "Huh...? Wh.. I can't.." She mumbled quietly. Suddenly, she saw a girl overlooking her. Only this girl had fox ears. "Huh? Where am I? What happened?" Kaia said aloud, her vision shifting around the room. From what she could tell she was in some sort of office? Except she had been confined to a table, her arms and legs attached firmly to its surface... Oh no... MANA had caught her? Her mind raced back through her memories, and suddenly she remembered! She was running away from a giant monster, when suddenly someone stuck her in the neck with some sort of stun. This must have been the result. That's when the girl began to speak. Kaia stared wide eyed, her red eyes flaring with confusion. That's when she gave her some explanation of her current situation. According to this little girl, she had been in a coma for a day, and was now on some sort of city? On a giant turtle? Under regular circumstances Kaia would have told the girl to piss off, but that didn't seem like the best idea given her situation. ALthough her words yielded some facts that Kaia didn't have a whole lot of trouble believing. She said it was located atop a giant tortise? From what she could remember, the beast did have some building like shapes on top of it.

Before giving a threat to Kaia, she released her confines. Kaia said nothing, but a seriously pissed of expression was glued to her face. She slowly leaned up and felt her wrists. Sore from the cuffs, who knows how long they had been placed around them. Kai shook her head slowly and then looked at the girl straight in the eyes. The fox ears were odd to be sure, and so was her age? If Kaia didn't know any better, she seemed to be a few years younger then herself. "Woha woha. Slow down squirt. Where exactly did you say I am? Why am I he-" Her speech stopped dead in its tracks as a new arrival entered the room...

Kaia's eyes widened, and her look of anger was replaced by a sense of shock, and fear. There she was. Only a few feet way from her. Another Kaia. Looking alike in EVERY detail. From the red eyes, hair, body type. EVERYTHING. Where the hell was she?! What was this place?! Had MANA drugged her even further? Kaia couldn't even speak, but had her mouth trembling open slightly as a finger pointed to the clone...

Finally, after a moment of shock, Kaia gulped and managed to speak again, her voice quivering. "What the hell did you do to me... Th- that's not me..." Her conscious was too distracted to even hear what the fox girl had been saying to her, and Kaia ignored the bowl of lollipops completely. Her voice sounded like hers too, except it was much calmer. Unlike Kaia's regular tone. After that the girl introduced herself as "Harmony" What did that even mean? They were twins? Clones? Did Kaia have some sort of family relation she was unaware of? SO many thoughts raced through her mind at once she finally broke.

With a terrified Yelp, Kaia leaned back, a little too far and lost her balance, falling backwards off the edge of the table. She rubbed her head as she continued to sit on the floor. "Ow..."

BY THE EDGE OF MY BLADE, AND THE TIP OF MY BULLET I WILL PROTECT THOSE I LOVE... EVEN IF I HAVE TO PROTECT THEM FROM MYSELF.
A look of apathy was about Lexa's face as she saw the girl freaking out. The way the chemo-electrical signals in her brain were firing off let Lexa know she was afraid of something, but she couldn't tell what... "Harmony, would you mind ordering us something from the maid cafe?" Lexa said in a soft voice. The tone this time had changed from being 12, to being somewhere around 23, which was Lexa's proper age. Harmony nodded, knowing this kind of thing is hard for humans to take in. She got up and walked out the room to order for delivering. Lexa walked to the front of Kaia and sat on her knees reaching her hand out to grab the one she was touching her head with and moving it aside. Lexa's eyes began shimmering, not in a sense that it was beautiful, but rather it was literally shimmering like some sort of jewel, like the ocean's surface on a sunny day.

Kaia would feel a jolt run up her arm followed by a sense of calm. Lexa had reduced the activity in the rear portion of her mind and readjusted the 'feel good' hormones it was excreting to alter her mood to help calm her down. The pain from where she hit her head would begin subsiding as Lexa had rerouted the electrical impulses from the nerves in that region to produce a type of numbing effect. "Don't panic." Lexa's adult like voice would sound off, calm like a mother soothing her child. "You aren't in danger. You are in Sanctuary, a home for the homeless, a safe haven for those who need protection. You are under my care, and I refuse to let you be hurt.'" she would say in the same tone. Lexa removed her hand from Kaia's and began standing up, pulling a chair with wheels across the room and leaving it next to her before jumping and sitting on the metal table. "You got a name kid?" Lexa said nonchalantly, her new voice resembling a mature woman, but her body resembling a prepubescent pre-teen...

Harmony walked back in with a pair of folders. "I've ordered us all a light meal. I hope you're alright with a turkey club. I think it has turkey, lettuce, tomato, bacon, ranch, and some seasoning in it but the cheff might add something else for spice... he likes doing that ever so often." she said calmly while looking at Kaia with a friendly expression. She sat down in the chair she previously left. "I understand you must be surprised, but I find it to be exciting to meet someone who looks like me." she said with a calm tone, her optimism contrasting Kaia's fear. "What're those in your hand?" "These are the bone scan and DNA test you ordered."

Lexa took the too folders and opened the first one, reviewing the images. "No signs of density increasing on the phalanges, carpals, or metacarpals... no inflation around the knuckles... THOSE MOTHER FUCKERS!" she shouted with an annoyed expression. "I'll order the four of them to come to the interrogation room." Harmony said while getting up again and walking out the door. "I'm gonna ream those lying bastards with a flaming pitchfork." Lexa muttered with anger in her voice. "Oh right, the blood test." she said, immediately switching back to her 12 year old voice. "Hmmm... proteins are similar, formation is slightly off... The two of you aren't related in the slightest, but you do share some genetic similarities." Lexa said calmly before putting down the pages. "My best guess is they used your genetic coding to create Harmony's body, and then used other stuff to give her combat traits. The only parts of your genetic code that line up are the ones controlling how you look. Though you really shouldn't be surprised. Statistically speaking there's at least three more people in this world who look just like you. There's probably 1 other person who's life is exactly likes yours as well."

A small drone with helicopter blades appeared flying into the room and landed, dropping off several boxes and opening a keypad that Lexa touched a small black card to. She picked up one of the boxes and looked inside, walking it over and setting it in Kaia's lap. She took the other one and say on the table, pulling out her club sandwich and taking a bite. "Since you're here, what's your story?" she asked just after swallowing.
