Private RUN BOY RUN • job

Post by Raven 13th April 2016, 10:42 pm

    Lucie • Fairy Tail • D Rank

A gentle inhale of fresh air amidst a busy street. There were shopping stores all around, and the crowds were noisy and bustling. The grown-ups and mages of the plaza barely looked at the small girl, but that was fine. She had no intention to be looked at too long or asked about the whereabouts of 'parents' or if she were lost. She could not reply to them anyways, and it was always awkward and pressed her anxiety above and beyond its limits usually. Worst case scenario, Ren would try to 'help' her and end up silencing the casually-worried folks checking on her for good. It was a vicious cycle that Lucie did not want repeated today. Thus, her garnet-hued eyes avoided eye contact of any sort as she went about her business. She had earned a few jewels from the last mission she was on, and had a few extra to spend on anything she wanted. For once, perhaps she could buy herself something nice like a normal girl. After having kept her eyes peeled for an attractive store for a while, Lucie finally noticed a store that appeared to sell... blankets? How interesting. A nice, fluffy blanket would be nice to have, and would last longer than candy or simple toys. Walking towards the store, the alabaster-haired girl entered quietly, looking around a few moments before walking further in.

“Excuse me sir, you can’t do that.” Said the shop owner.

“Yes I can.” Said a flat, male sounding voice. Quickly enough Lucie would find herself face to face with the scene that had unfolded. The ice elemental had grabbed ten blankets and swaddled themselves in them like a little nest-like cocoon.

“Yes, you are physically able to, but that doesn’t mean you should. Stop that immediately or I will be forced to call the police!”

It was at that point that Yuu then began to unravel themselves from the tangle of blankets, picking up his glasses as they fell off. He appeared to be sweating profusely, despite the fact that he was cold to the touch. Fact was Yuu had been so snug that he had started to melt. It had been slightly painful, but the blankets made it worth it.

Yuu needed the softness. They wanted to be in a cocoon of blissful softness. But it took too many blankets to get to that point. They needed a singular blanket, but none of these blankets were good enough. Having all these blankets made Yuu feel hot, and that started to make them melt. Yuu wasn’t in a terrible state of affairs yet, but that didn’t make anything any better.

Lucie could only halt in her tracks as she watched the scene that was taking place before her. Just what did the boy think he was doing? So many blankets in one place, and him cocooned inside, arguing with the shopkeeper who was now threatening to call the police on him. How unfortunate... the boy only wanted to snuggle with the soft bedding. Seeing him move them aside, however, she wondered if he finally decided to give in because of the threat, or simply had gotten too warm, judging by the sweat. Moving further in, the Fairy Tail mage glanced to and fro at the large selection of sheets, quilts, comforters, and blankets. None seemed particularly soft and interesting, however.

"Tell you what, sir. We can make you the fluffiest, warmest blanket of all- one worth many blankets, if you can help us gather the materials. Are you up for that?" the shopkeeper said. They were fresh out of the wool needed for the blanket, but honestly, he just wanted to get the obnoxious fluffy-obsessed boy to leave. Hearing his words, however, Lucie began to make her way towards the two, despite the scene that has just transpired. A REALLY fluffy blanket? Now that seemed like something she would not mind spending her jewels on...

“The softest blanket of them all?” The warm part did not appeal to Yuu terribly, but he would accept that trade off. He needed something soft and cozy. As much as Yuu no longer felt the pain… He could imagine it sometimes. It resounated in his mind like a cavernous echo. He needed something gentle, something soft to take his mind off of it.

In truth Yuu wanted comfort, but he did not understand the meaning of such a word. As an object who had never known the warmth of a mother’s touch he could not comprehend the definition of the word comfort. Yes, Kakuma had tried to be that kind of comforting. But it had failed. All Yuu had perceived was that the guild master was holding them against their will and taking them in the direction of danger. “I need it.” Yuu stated, dropping the blankets on the floor. They made a faint wet thud as they hit the ground, making the shop keeper grimace.

Still not even an inkling of expression crossed Yuu’s face. There was something empty in Yuu’s eyes. If the eyes were the doorways to the soul a particularly perceptive person might question if this person did indeed have a soul at all.

"Right then... there is a ram that dwells in the Spooky Forest. You must hunt him down and bring me the skin- then we can work on a very fluffy blanket for you," the shopkeeper said with a sigh, hoping that the boy would leave the shop soon and go on the wild chase... hopefully not to return by not being able to find the ram. He still needed the wool, but he could wait to hire more decent and adequate help, right?

Hearing this piqued Lucie's own curiosity. With the jewels she had saved up, a fluffy blanket sounded amazing. The girl moved towards the blanket-obsessed boy subtly, and upon reaching him, tugged on the edge of his shirt gently, as if trying to get his attention. She wanted to go as well, but was unable to say just that. Thus, once he began leaving, she would follow him, eager to hunt down this ram as well. She was not scared of any forest, and knew how to fight quite well, being a mage of Fairy Tail. And if anything went wrong, well, even against her will, Ren would be there, so she had nothing to worry about.

“I will return with the required item.” Said Yuu, only looking down at Lucie a moment before strolling onward. Yuu did not care why Lucie had been tugging at his shirt. All he cared about was the pursuit of the fluffy goodness that would be the one and only thing that could comfort him in the world right now from the echo of searing hot pain that had been being eaten alive by the ice elemental. Yuu would never forget it for as long as they walked the earth.

They never wanted to feel something that painful again.

Yuu did not understand that comfort could come from another creature, for Yuu simply could not fathom them. The ice elemental had been created for a purpose. Why the humans had been created Yuu neither knew nor cared. Does a wrench ponder the meaning of the universe? No. It simply did what it was told. Yuu technically wasn’t doing what he was being told right now. But he wasn’t being told what to do right now.

What the ice elemental was doing was not doing what he was not told. If he had no orders then he could pursue the fluffy. Of course he still had the order he had been made for, and he would complete that. He just really needed this right now.

The boy barely paid any attention to her as she tugged on his shirt. Did he not understand? Usually people turned to look at her and respond, but he barely did anything at all, except accept the quest from the shopkeeper to get the wool needed for a blanket. As he began to walk out of the place, Lucie eagerly followed, not about to be left behind. She scurried after the older boy, but was unable to shout out at him. Speaking was impossible. The girl had never been able to speak, and though once in a while, she wanted to, she never tried. She never could- it was as simple as that. But at the same time, that did make communication quite hard. There was only one other way...

An ability. A unique one. If she was close enough, she could reach into her powers to communicate and project her voice to the mind. In short, it was telepathy, and it was usually fairly effective. Ensuring she was in range of the boy, she attempted to link her mind to his, and deliver her voice in that manner. "Hey... wait for me... please. I want to come with you," Lucie attempted to say, praying it would work. The ability did not work on all types of people, especially those with closed-off minds. But surely, hopefully, her voice would reach him. "My name is Lucie... I'm the girl behind you, but I cannot speak."

Why would I need to wait for myself? Yuu was confused by this new sounding voice in his head, and thus continued onwards. I’m not a girl. I am not Lucie. Causation of conflicting information entry inquiry.

The ice elemental wasn't female, they weren't even really male either. Yuu hadn’t even bothered putting the correct genitalia on this time. The ice elemental had no primary sexual characteristics whatsoever. They had seemed more bother than they were worth. Yuu only had experience with what female ones looked like, and even they seemed rather pointless. The point of those traits was to procreate, but Yuu had no desire or need to procreate. Such a concept was a biological urge, and the ice elemental wasn’t a biological creature. Therefore he did not follow the logic of the creatures of biology.

Or common sense logic for that matter… Considering he thought that Lucie’s thought voice was his own. Had he not thought it was his own he’d think it was Yukionna’s afterwards, even if they had introduced themselves as otherwise. Yukionna was he and he was Yukionna. He was created from her, and he was her. Thus, hearing her voice was as natural as hearing his own in his head. Hearing another person's voice in his head was a foreign concept to him.

The boy spoke out loud, but Lucie blinked in confusion at, well, his confusion. Why was he responding in that manner? Was he a robot or something or other? Or wait... he thought her voice was his own thought process? But, she had told him her she was. Why was he not understanding? His last statement was also most confusing. Causation of conflicting information entry what...?

Wait, he was not really a robot, was he? She now noticed that when tugging on his shirt, absolutely no warmth exuded from him like a normal human being. Just what was this fellow...? Attempting to run over to him and catch up, Lucie tried to tug at his shirt again. "No, no, that's not it... the girl beside you... she is speaking into your midn through her faults. The voice you hear is her talking to you," the young child attempted to explain again, gazing up at the boy desperately before attempting to give a small, reassuring smile. She rarely made much expression with her face, she realized. Even though it helped with communicating, Ren rarely gave her the chance to do much, and he definitely did not give her much reason to smile... not with everything he brought upon her.

Speaking to me through her faults? How am I supposed to know which thoughts are mine then?

Yuu was confused. It wasn’t like the ice elemental was tone deaf, he just really didn’t understand the differences between tones. Hell if two humans had the same hair color he sometimes even mistook them for one another. Humans all looked the same to him. “Why is she speaking to me?” The reason was unclear to Yuu. She had clearly been able to catch up to him aftera ll, once she actually tried. Why was she following him? The girl’s smile went completely unheeded by Yuu, as while he did spare her a little glance, he did not truly care or understand what a smile meant.

"My voice is feminine. And childish. Your voice and thoughts are deeper in tone," she attempted to explain, confused at why it was so hard for the boy to understand. Her voice surely sounded different than the boy's right? It did to her... but what if for some reason, it did not to him? That idea definitely did not make things easy. Giving an audible sigh and releasing a breath, Lucie activated her telepathy again to speak with the cold, ice-like male. "I want to hunt the ram with you... I want a fluffy blanket too!" she tried to explain in a somewhat cheerful and patient manner. Hopefully he would understand, and allow her to accompany him. It would be unfortunate if not, and she would end up going home with no soft blanket, which was what she wanted to spend her saved-up jewels on. The thought was a shame, thus, she tried to direct her mind in much lighter directions.

Yuu knew that they might need help on this job. That had been one good thing about being in a guild. As good at easy help had been, however, he was not willing to take the risk that the next guild he ended up in would wind up like that. The little girls description of Yuu’s voice did little to help him. “Depends on the size of the ram.” Answered the ice elemental flatly.

The ice elemental would not delude her. If the ram was only big enough for one then she would not get a blanket. If they only found one small ram then the little human was out of luck.

Lucie describing what the pitches of their voices sounded like did little to help Yuu. They were an ice elemental, and a young one at that. The meaning of words, not pitches, had been installed in their mind. It wasn’t as if they were tone deaf, they simply did not understand what a tone or a pitch was. Possessing the creature would be an easy feet. Hell. You wouldn’t even need to possess Yuu if you were able to speak to their mind directly. They were that kind of dense. They were a tool and nothing more. To question something for any length of time was not yet something they were programmed to be able to do.

For that would make them an ineffectual tool.

The size of the ram... oh of course! If the ram were teensy tiny, it would not have enough wool for two blankets to be created from it. As such, they had to look for the biggest, fattest ram that they could find, and slayer it gently, without too much blood. With Crepundia, it would not be too much of a problem. The small artifact knife had a very clean cut, and could do the trick of killing it without much bloodshed. Hopefully, they would not have to do the skinning though... that very idea made the poor child feel a bit sick and queasy in the stomach.

Realizing that they needed some way to get to the Spooky Forest, where this legendary ram apparently roamed, a sudden idea came to the young girl's mind. Taking a few steps away from the boy, Lucie used her inherited ability of shapeshifting to take the form of a small, white eastern dragon with crimson eyes. She could fly in this form, and was big enough to carry one or two people. "We have to get to the forest somehow. I can carry you in this form. Get on. What is your name, by the way?"
